My gt-gt-gt-gt grandfather was Alexander Hutcheon (1756-1821) who at the time of his death resided in Barrowley, Ellon, Aberdeenshire. (as per Aberdeen Sheriff Court Deeds, 1823). In this latter legal document, Alex. H. is described as the only brother and heir of one Hugh Hutcheon, an advocate in Aberdeen, who died 27 Sept, 1804. According to the History of the Society of Advocates in Aberdeen (New Spalding Club, 1912), Hugh Hutcheon was “proprietor of Broadford, Aberdeen” – hence, I suspect that Alexander Hutcheon (and/or his heirs), as the only heir(s) of his brother Hugh, may have inherited Broadford. According to the same Sheriff Court Deed, Alexander Hutcheon’s children were named: Hugh, James [my ancestor], William, John, Margaret, Helen, Christian, Catherine, Alexander, Samuel and Benjamin. Alexander’s wife was named Christian Walker (1761-1819) (they are buried together in Logie Buchan churchyard, a few miles south of Barrowley). The father of Alexander and Hugh was one William Hutcheon who came from Strichen parish, Aberdeenshire (according to the “History of the Soc. of Advocates).
Does this kindred intersect with any other Hutcheon families being researched? Any or all replies on this will be most welcome.
