Dawn, My greatgrandmother's second marriage w
as to a Charles Huonker 1896 in Corning, NY. Charles immigrated to Corning in 1893 from Cult, Germany. They were married for 15 years(no children of their own) and he disappears in Jan. 1911. The 1920 NYS Census shows a John G. huonker age 46 from Wurtemberg, Germany, a machinist in a railroad shop, immigrated 1889, naturalized 1893.
wife Elizabeth, 49, from Westphallen, Germany, no occupation immigrated 1893, naturalized 1893
son Karl John, 17, born NY
dau. Helen E., 15 born NY
The family was living at 223 Bridge St., Corning, NY.
John G. and Charles Huonker were probably related. With a name like Huonker in a small town as Corning they have to be. Charles and Eliz. immigrated the same year. My g.grandmother's first husband was Frank Flasphaler. Their son (my grandfather) was named John Francis Flasphlaer. Frank dies when John is one yr. old and my grandmother marries Charles Huonker. John is raised as John Huonker( we're not sure if legally adopted).
y maiden name is Huonker. I am from Elmira, NY- close to Corning, NY. Where are you?
