I would be happy to send the photo and share data. My home email is ghase@charter.net .
I think we wrote back and forth about Nancy Rea years ago...I have started really looking at land records from the Cumberland Valley Township and I really do think that your Nancy Rea is tied in with the Thomas Rea family of Bedford.

It looked like George W. Hunt moved to Danville?

I would be interested in the photo of Nancy Rea and any info you might have found about where your Hunt family lived. There is a W.T. Hunt that ends up with some land that belonged to Thomas Ray, Jr...probably tied in with your Nancy..

While not a "known" descendant, I believe this is the likely direction what I know is pointing me in. I descend from Charles Hunt (b 1729, VA and d 1794, SC) and Millicent Blassingame (or Millicent Mason, depending on the researcher). Things get blurry beyond that and I have not yet put much effort in to sorting out the line.

If you have taken ancestry's autosomal dna test, please keep an eye out for my username in your matches (I starting looking through my low/very low confidence 5-8 cousin matches for your username, but got sidetracked when I found my husband in my low confidence matches... which is interesting given there is zero overlap in our trees, although mine is documented much further back than his). It would be so useful if there were a way to search matches by username.

I believe they may have been William Hunt and Sarah Ann Deacon from Leicestershire, but not positive I'm following the correct line.

If anyone out there has any information, please contact me at globob@northwestel.net

I am looking on this board in hopes of finding an answer to exactly this question. I'm questioning that Huldah married Comfort Carpenter when he was 11 years her junior - making me think there is a different Huldah Hunt involved here. If anyone has sorted this out or has information confirming this is correct I would love to get this little thorn in my tree resolved! Thanks.

Polly was born about 1842. The Wilson I found that seems really to fit the timeline, but I have no way to prove it. Came out of Tennessee, in the 1860 Census he and his wife Malinda were living in Floyd County Kentucky. Polly was 18 years old. She shows up as both Mary Ann and Polly Ann during the census records. If this is indeed my Polly Ann. She died in 1892 at the age of 50 having given birth to Benjamin in 1888 and Walter in 1891, kind of makes you think that maybe she never recovered after these Pregancys. With the distruction of the 1890 census I have no proff of her living with my Grandfather. Isaac and Polly had 14 children beginning in 1863 to 1891. Isaac remarried before 1893 Sarah Crase Adams who also had 5 living children. Her children were Will and I met him as a child, Thomas, Mahailia Walter and William or Walace. My grand fathers three closest siblings were Walter 3 years younger Thomas and William. So the Whitt house hold had a group of boys all by the same names. Not the same ages however. I remember my Grandpa showing me a picture of a bunch of little boys on a waggon and he told me they were his brothers and half brothers. I didn't understand the whole concept at that point in my life so I didn't ask the questions I have now many years later. He was 6 when his dad married Sarah and so she is the only mother he ever knew, and he treated her as his mother until the day she died. I have had a lot of fun surching for all of the connections and have actually found some pretty interesting things, I just can't find Polly, for sure.

Jasper had 2 half-brothers Enoch & Samuel. he had 3 full brothers, John 1800-1820,Daniel 1802-1850, and Wilson Shotwell 1810-1890. I don't have a Polly Ann as any of Wilson Shotwells children. There were many Wilsons in this family. Enoch had a son named Wilson 1813-1902, and Jasper had a Son named Wilson 1829-1912, but I only find sons for both of them.

This looks like a fun adventure.
My Great Great Grandfather was killed in his fathers field when he was 20 before his son was born, and I have know idea why I think he was shot. His name was James Marion Hale who was married to Virginia Cook they wer from Letcher, Letcher Co., Kentucky, Their son was Francis Marion Hale, who was born 13, March 1867 in Lether, KY.
The Hunt family weaves in and out of both sides of my family, I am currently looking for my Great Grandmother Polly Anne Hunt Whitt who died in 1892 when my Grandfather was just 4 years old. Her husband was Isaac M. Whitt, also of Kentucky. I don't know if this will be any help to you, just thought I would put it out there because you never know. I think Polly's father was a Wilson also but the dates wouldn't jive but he could be a brother to Jasper. Did Jasper have any brothers that you know of.

Re: Gilead Hunt or Abigail Hunt

Yes, Gilead had an Abigail.

The key evidence of ancestry comes from a deposition made by Gilead Hunt and his wife:

“Sarah/Celia/Celetje Lasson b. ca. 1760 m. after banns registered 21 Nov 1778, Reformed Dutch Church, New Hackensack, [New York], Gilead Hunt of East-Chester County (sic), son of Ruben Hunt and ____, b. ca. 1754 (said he was “near 55 years of age” in 1809, Eastchester, Westchester Co. Children (Hunt): Peggy, Abigail, Simeon, Moses, John, James, Polly, Sally, Abraham, William”

“The examination of Ceclia Hunt on 18 April 1809, and of Gilliad Hunt on 8 Sept 1809, both said she was the daughter of Simeon Lawson of Poughkeepsie (Record of the overseers of the Poor, 1807-1815, Poughkeepsie, Dutchess Co, page nos. illegible ). It is possible that she was the daughter of (no. 6.vi) Simeon3, the son of Isaac2; however no marriage record of children have been found for him.

The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record, New York Genealogical and Biographical Society, 2000, Volume 131, page 55 (footnotes). Records of the Overseers of the poor may be found in Adriance Memorial Library, Poughkeepsie, NY.

I have written the Adriance Library and they did a lookup but could not find this enrty. (Somebody help! Grin!)

Gilead is the son of Reuben Hunt and wife Unknown. Reuben was son of Moses Hunt of Eastchester, Westchester County, NY. Sometime around 1750, Reuben migrated to Kakiat in the Precinct of Haverstraw in Orange County (now Rockland County.

I have much, much more on Reuben Hunt, likely father of Ruth Hunt who married Loyalist William Secord and went to Canada as part of the 1783 Spring Fleet.

Winnie Hunt 1793 GA/1851AL - w/o John Parker

This is update of Winnie Hunt, wife of John Parker & I'm sharing what has been found that might shed some light on her background of her early years, timeline & places and some trivia.

Transcription of "Elim Church organized 1825" newspaper article.
From newspaper article copy/photo originally submitted to Ancestry.com by J. Doddridge in tree Goodlet/Doddridge on 29 Jul 2010 that I added to my family tree. BB Jan 2013
Becky Dunn Byars added this on 31 Jan 2013.

Note: names/dates/places in [ ] are for reference from facts/sources/other data use to figure out timelines of this family - BB]

HANDWRITING AT TOP :
[Winnie]...was educated in Dalton, Ga [Educated in GA, probably, but not Dalton, as town of Dalton was in existence in 1847 aka Cross Plains in 1837 but Whitfield Co. didn't exist until 1851 & by 1851 Winnie had been in Conecuh Co. AL since 1820] & married John Parker there in 1814 [No...Winnie was about 16 when she married 23 Oct 1814 in Baldwin Co. GA]...they should give her credit & that depends upon who writes the history.
TYPED NOTE ON RIGHT SIDE:
The first school was built at this church [Elim Chuch 1825] & Winnie Hunt Parker was its first teacher [In Conecuch Co. Alabama NOT Dalton, Whitfield Co.GA]
ARTICLE:
In the early part of 1800 the southern part of Alabama was a wilderness; the land was covered with forests inhabited with many kinds of wild animals.
In 1817 when Alabama became a territory, many people moved in Alabama from other states to make new homes. In 1817 Messrs. John, Noah, Sam & Peter Parker [These Parkers listed ARE brothers, but in 1817 John was about 24 & only one married; Noah was about 13, Sam about 10 & Peter about 16], moved into Alabama from Georgia to the present Roberts community to build new homes [This would be Conecuh Co. created in 1818-Escambia Co. wasn't created until 1868].
They found Indians living here which were sometimes friendly and often unfriendly. These settlers, we are sure, found life hard and for some reason, moved back into Georgia to their old homes after living here [AL] 5 years[about 1822].
After these settlers lived in Georgia 2 years [about 1824] they moved back to their new homes in Alabama. After a year [about 1825] after these settlers moved back to this community they organized the Elim Baptist Church. As with all settlers in new territory, these settlers set up homes, a church and a school in their communtiy.
TRIVIA: Father Travis Alexander, who was a circuit rider in south Alabama, helped Mrs. John Parker & others organize the Elim Church in 1825, which is the oldest Baptist Church in Escambia County. "Father" Travis (as he was called) was the first preacher of the Elim Church. He was more like a missionary going about from community to community, riding his horse to preach to the people. The founders of the Elim Church chose the name "Elim" from the Bible. Elim was the 2nd station where the Israelites encamped after crossing the Red Sea and it is distinguished as having fountains of excellent water. The first church at Elim was built near an excellent spring of water, therefore, it was fitting it should be called Elim. The first church building at Elim was constructed of logs about 2 1/2 miles northeast of the present site.

Hunt of Walpole NH

Old letter dated August 13, 1839 written by Seth Hunt, and addressed to Abraham Richards, Esq., New York New York. I think Seth Hunt was of Walpole NH.

Hawesville, Kentucky
August 13, 1839

My friend David Selden,

I have your favor from London of the 5 July per Great Western & am gratified to learn that you have at last got on terms with the Tomkins, My answer to your enquiry whether the two sons of James Niven died without issue, leaving Mrs. Tompkins sole heir, I have to say that such I have no doubt to be the fact. The youngest died when a young lad and, as I learned, a midshipman in the Navy. The other son died somewhere in Ireland without leaving any issue, but these facts, I believe, I learnt from Mr. Tompkins, as coming from Mrs. Smith Mrs. Tompkins mother & the wife of Admiral Richard Tyrrell Smith. But I write from memory only, not having the papers relative to the Vermont & New Hampshire lands to refer to. They are at my mothers at Walpole.

I hope my friend, you will not leave England without making some definite arrangement with Mr. & Mrs. Tompkins. If you do, the business will no doubt keep forever & the lands & all hope of benefit will be forever lost to them & their children after them. It is wonderful how this business has been procrastinated and what changes have taken place since 1810 to render the recovery of the lands more difficult than at that time.

I address this hasty letter to Mr. Richards according to your direction & he will I have no doubt forward it to you & return a copy which you will find in case you should come home in the George Washington.

Very truly yours, Seth Hunt

This is a very late follow up but I was wondering if you have had any success with your Hunt line. There were was no Charles in my line, but my grandfather born 1907 was Albert and his parents were from Manchester area.

Census, I am under the impression that the 1890 Census was distroyed but Kentucky is almost complete. If so how do I get to that information.

Samuel Mallory Hunt of Union Village New York, Marathon NY

Old letter dated August 2, 1838 sent by Dr. Samuel Mallory Hunt in Union Village, New York to his brother-in-law, Charles G. Havens, Wall Street, New York City.

letter addressed to to Charles G. Havens, Esqr., 55 Wall Street, New York, New York

Union Village
August 2, 1838

Dear Brother,

I have been rather dilatory in writing to you since my return from the City, I have been waiting in order to collect some intelligence worth communicating and yet do not find any particularly interesting items. I returned by the way of Albany and purchased my hardware at that place. The whole amount of my bills of goods purchased is $2410.00, for which I owe at New York $1111.37 and at Albany $193.17, making $1304.54. The times have been rather hard in the country and people have been more cautious than formerly in getting credit at the store. The season was extremely backward and gloomy to the farmer until about the first day of June when the sun let out some extra rays as though taking pity upon poor fellows upon the teraquesics ____ mean to make up the season by intensity. Consequently we have experienced quite a favorable change in the vegetable aspect and prospects. Probably there never was a period since the settlement of our country when the earth has teemed with such an abundance of the necessaries of life for man and beast, for which we have great reason to rejoice. Cattle are selling extremely high here such as will answer for your citizens to devour so that I have come to the safe conclusion that the Graham reform does not progress very rapidly in your City.

In regard to business in the mercantile line, I have succeeded as well as I could expect considering the times. I have sold and credited into good hands about $800 worth and have taken cash and butter to the amount of $300, having purchased considerable of an amount of domestic goods and have had to expend considerable cash. I have sent the interest to T. Lynde and he agrees to suspend the time of payment a year or longer if I wish. I am collecting in my old debts as fast as possible. I fear, however, I shall not be able to meet the demands due this fall from my creditors in the City although I have in most instances made contracts with people to pay me this fall. What I fall short in collecting I shall have to hire for five or six months for I must if practicable fulfill all engagements punctually. The fact is, as you well know, I have not got capital enough to carry on the business alone with sufficient life and velocity. There cannot be any mistake about the event as the operation will be perfectly a safe one. Yet I should like to have a good partner with me who could invest $1500 or $2000 in the business with me. We could then keep up a more full apartment which would tend to draw [page torn] from a greater distance and give more interest to business. If your business would permit, I should be glad to have you take a share as your living in the City would afford facilities for purchasing and transmitting pay for goods.

I was unfortunate this season in having my goods detained about a week by a break in the Chenango Canal only a few miles above the place of depot (the Chenango Forks). But since then, business has gone on quite regularly on the Chenango Canal, and they have a daily packet in operation between Binghamton & Utica. The packet, however, only goes to Hamilton. Then passengers are taken in the stage to Utica in time to take the morning cars so that passengers can travel from here to New York in 48 hours.

I have relinquished the practice of medicine and intend to pay a strict attention to the mercantile business and give it a fair trial believing that I can by a prudent management accumulate more than by the practice of medicine and ultimately succeed and do a good business.

We have (I mean all the family in its departments) generally a good health since I saw you and nothing in their circumstances occurred in any way worthy of notice. Your father talks of trying to make an accession to his farm instead of buying out Hart though I suppose he has written you on the subject. Consequently, you are better informed on the subject than I am. We have had an uncommon warm summer here so far though the heat is not so intense for a few days past. I don't know how you can live pent up in the City under such an accumulation of caloric.

August 10th

P. S. My letter not being in a state of readiness when the mail went out last week, I close it at this time by observing that nothing has occurred here worthy of note the last week.

Crigen & Henrietta have however been here on a visit and I learn that you have been somewhat liable to make a small donation to Henrietta on account of a certain boy in question. It appears she has finally had one of her own but as it was rather a premature birth, perhaps you may erase the legality of the payment on that account. I understand it was conceptis quince mense. But I must close or I shall be too late this time for the mail.

Yours truly,
S. M. Hunt
