Nathaniel Hunn's 1647 and 1650

I cannot help now but share the same problem - they must be from George.
I have Nathaniel who married Priscilla Kichin (sp)as being born in 1947 and Nathaniel who married Rebecca Hale born in 1650. I share your opinion. What source I have found does not help with enough detail to answer the question.
I do recommend you read about the battle of Moore's Creek, Scarborough ME during King Philips War where Nathaniel (1647 above) was killed.

Nathaniel Hunn m. Priscilla Kitchen

Hi all,

I have read on the threads here that the Nathaniel Hunn who married Priscilla Kitchen in 1672 in Salem is NOT a descendant of George & Ann Hunn of Boston - the first of the Hunn family to move to America. I am wondering what the evidence for this is? Which primary sources suggest it?

I find it difficult to fathom that a relatively uncommon name like Nathaniel would crop up in two separate families, especially considering there was only one known Hunn family in the colony at the time.

Why could Nathaniel (m. P. Kitchen) not be the son of Nathaniel Hunn & Sarah Keene of Boston, b. 1650? Nathaniel I (m. S. Keene) is the only known offspring of George & Ann, so Nathaniel (m. P. Kitchen) must descend from them.

I believe the Nathaniel who m. Rebecca Hale is one and the same as the one who married S. Keene and their son Nathaniel (m. M. Orvis) could've been born anywhere between 1671-1683 and thus could've been born after the death of Nathaniel (m. P. Kitchen) in 1677, and named for an older half-brother, as was not uncommon to do in those days.

Does anyone have any insight?

Hello. I was hoping someone could help identify some old family photos. I eventually want to make a family album. I have a photo of Rev. David but was hoping if someone could identify the woman. Is this Eunice like it has been suggested to me? The photo of David I believe is the mid-1880s.

I am going to Wethersfield. I will look again, but I have a record (I think a will) that names Priscilla Kichin. But an ancestry contact in Florida indicates that while true, a Nathaniel 3? that married Priscilla is NOT a direct descendant. So when I get prime source, I will share.

I have Nathaniel 1 (b 1626) son of George as marrying Sarah Keene (Kiene) and Nathaniel 2 (b. ca 1649-50) as his son, marrying Rebecca Hale.

Dave Hunn

I've had this same issue too. I read somewhere that Priscilla Kitchin is NOT related to this Nathaniel Hunn. She might be in the family tree, but not this side f it. I pushed my tree down to:

George & Ann
Nathaniel & Sarah/Rebecca (not 2 but 1 Nate)
Samuel & Sarah
Jonathan & Lydia
Samuel & Polly
and so forth

I'm not sure what's correct. But this is the way Wethersfield, CT has it in their records.

Horrible Confusion in Hunn Family Tree

I started out with the indication from my father that our family came to the US from England with George (1600-1640) m. Ann Hunn. I've ran into some documentation and a letter from David L. Hunn (1789-1888) that suggests otherwise. This supports that my family tree starts in the US from a Jonathan Hunn (1640-1735) m. Sarah "Polly" Tiffany.

This is the old line:

George b. 1600 d. 1640 m. Ann Hunn
Nathaniel Hunn b. 1623 d. 1702 m. Sarah Keen
Samuel Hunn b. 1664 d. 1738 m. Sarah Dikes (Dix)
Jonathan Hunn b. 1705 d. 1749 m. Lydia Hunn (unknown maiden)
Samuel Hunn b. 1732 d. 1773 m. Polly Tiffany

This is the new suggested one:

Jonathan Hunn b. 1640 d. 1735 m. Sarah "Polly" Tiffany
Samuel Hunn b. 1730 d. 1774 m. Polly Tiffany b. 1735 d. 1820

So it seems that I have Samuel Hunn the same, but then is Jonathan Hunn (1640-1735) related to George Hunn? I'm trying to figure out if maybe both are right, but one is off on the wrong side, if that makes any sense.

Please help!

I am having a similar Nathaniel issue. I have Nathaniel (I) b 1626 m. Sarah Keen (or Kiene). Nathaniel II I have b 1647 or 1649 d 1677 or 1679 m. Priscilla Kitchin. I have a Nathaniel III b 1650 d 1677 m. Priscilla Kitchen (probably same as II). I have a Nathaniel IV b 1650 d 1711 m. Rebecca Hale. Three Nathaniels within 3 years. Some of this source is from US New England Marriages Prior to 1700.
Any ideas based on prime source?

I wouldn't be surprised if "my" John W. Hunn didn't actually come from London, but rather left from London or passed through London on his way to the U.S. I don't have any more information about him unfortunately. However, I have more about his son Joseph Joslin Hunn (b. 15 May 1815, probably in New England), d. 23 Jun 1867, Arrington, Kansas, USA according to information on his tombstone). In 1852 he married Elizabeth Ann Rebman in Dubuque, Iowa, USA. They lived in Shasta County, California for a few years before homesteading in Kansas as abolitionists supporting the effort to make Kansas a "free state." Glad to hear you are working on the Hunn family.

That seems likely. It is also possible that he came from Germany (where there are a lot of Hunn families) and lived in England for a time before moving to the States. At the moment, I can't be of much use to you in expanding your information, but perhaps something will come to light in the future that will allow one or both of us to make a connection.

Best of luck with your research.
I have a Walter Frank William Hunn born on 12 Feb 1900 in Canning Town, Essex, to William Barnes Hunn and Charlotte Ratcliff. He, his mother and two sisters, arrived in the US in 1904 aboard the 'Majestic', joining his father, who had sailed a few months before. The whole family then moved to Chicago. Is this the same family you are researching? I have the Hunn line going back another ten generations from Walter's father.

She was married to Oran W. Staley around the turn of the 20th century, and lived in Centerville, Iowa, until at least 1940 (when both her and her husband were listed as 'deaf & dumb' in the census). They had a son who was born on September 2, 1904, but did not live to see his second birthday, dying on January 15, 1906. I do not know his name, only that his initials were 'H L'.

I would love to share information, as I have a bit on the Hunn family. Don't hesitate to contact me!

Good to hear from you. Unfortunately I don't have anyone in my tree that fits with that information. I have 8 John Hunns born in the 1770s, but most of those are accounted for. Two are not, but neither of them came from London (one from Cornwall, the other from Norfolk).

Do you have any more information on him or the family?

I don't have any concrete evidence - just supposition. There were a couple of George Hunns in Lincolnshire at the end of the 1500s, which allows for the possibility of an onomastic match. Also, the fact that he was one of the earliest settlers in Boston (Massachusetts), which was founded by a group of emigrants from the Boston (Lincolnshire) area is another hint at his origins. The Hunn family was well represented in the area around Boston (Lincs.) in the 1700s and 1800s, so obviously had deep roots in the area. The early parish records attest to this also.

So, I don't have any actual proof, but do think it is highly likely that George Hunn who settled in Boston, Massachusetts, originated around Boston, Lincolnshire.

Carol, George Hunn seems to have been investigated quite a bit, as he has left many descendants. I have not yet gotten around to researching his line, as they left England quite early on in the piece, but it would be good to have more information on him for my own records.

Do you have any evidence that he originated from London or was that just the port he left from. London wasn't a major centre for the Hunn family (these being in Norfolk, Cornwall and Lincolnshire). Of these only Lincolnshire has yielded any 'George Hunn's in the late 1500s/early 1600s, but not any that could be your George (that I have found yet).

Cheers,

Carol, that's very interesting. Would you be able to tell me what documentation this is? I don't have any Hunns attested for that area in the 1600s - though there is a maritime family from Brighton, Sussex, which is some 60-odd miles to the east of Portsmouth and the Spithead area.

Carol,
He wasn't intentionally executed by law, but as a result perhaps of the carrying out of "justice". As I recall the excerpt said, " George Hunne should be layd in irons and whipt for his insolent and contemptuous carriage." Apprarently, if he had been ill, it would probably have been enough to put him over the edge. It is conjecture on my part, but he made his will out the previous month (May) and was sentenced at the beginning of June. I will check to see if I have the source but I'm pretty sure I found it in the "Magistrate records of the Boston Bay Colony" which I found in the West Virginia University library (Wise library main campus). Sorry for the delay on the answer. I haven't been paying much attention lately. Roland

I well remember coming to the farm to see Uncle Charlie and even Uncle Frank Hunn. My maternal grandmother was Charlie's oldest sister Anna Hunn Pierce Farrant who died in 1973. I've not been back to upstate NY in many years but last time I was there, I visited the Family Plot at the Pioneer Cemetery in town where my Grandmother is buried along with her Parents and several brothers and sisters. I know when Gram passed, it took a special permit for her burial since it hasn't been active for many years. It's nice to know that the farm is still in the family. I think that Charlie was the last of that very large family. Have you ever seen the photo of the family gathered around their Mom Rowena? I think our cousin Mike Pierce has posted it on one of the genealogy web sites - I lose track of them. Anyway, it was nice to read your comments and news about the family. I live and have lived in South Florida since 1975 (Boca Raton) so it's a bit of a haul back to NY state.

Regards, Nelson Kilmer

I've been reading some other posts about Zadoc(k) Hunn and would like to add some info that may or may not be of interest to readers. My name is Peter C. Fletcher, my 90 year old mother is Eleanor L. Pierce Fletcher. Mom grew up, and still resides on "Hunn Acres", the farm founded by Zadoc, which is located just a couple miles or so south of the Hunn cemetery on Co.Rd. 32, outside of Canandaigua. During the depression, my Grandpa Charles E. Pierce, moved to the farm to work on shares with his uncle, Frank Hunn. Grandpa later inherited about 350 acres from "Uncle Frank". My dad, Elton Fletcher, then went to work on the farm as Grandpa's partner. My brother Steve and I figure we are the 7th generation of the "same family" to grow up, live and work on the farm. The farm is now longer active. The future will see the acres passed on to my children, Brett and Reagan, and to a nephew, Nathan (of course). My grandson is named Zadoc Joseph Fletcher (a 9th generation?)
Canadaigua is going to have (or is having) a 200 year celebration of sorts, and there has been some renewed interest in Zadoc(k). Helen Fox, Bristol Town Historian; Ray Henry, Canandaigua Town Historian; and Dr. Preston Pierce, Ontario County Historian, all would have info about Zadoc.

To Wnom It May Concern:

Zadok Hunn was my g-g-g-g-grandfather,(not sure if I've got the number of "g" right) his son James G. Hunn married Eliza Gillett (daughter of Polly Jones and Thomas Gillet}. They had a daughter named Mary Morton Hunn. Mary Morton Hunn at some point in time before 1835 Married Ralph Edwards. A newspaper article dated 10-20-1835 that she had saved in one of her books which are now in my library notes the death of their baby daughter Mary Jane (5 mo). I have found no record about Ralph Edwards, but suffice it to say he probably died. On Jan 11, 1843 Mary Mortom Hunn Edwards married Orrin Curtis(my G-G-grandfather - a second marriage for borh of them]. She's my g-g-grandmother.

Zadock Hunn had Married Mary Morton(daughter of Thomas Morton). Thomas Morton (accrding to a handwritten note in one of our old bibles(pub 1832) was an english attorny that had been sent by King George III to look after the crowns interewt in the colonies. However after being here a time he joined the cononosts.

Before tonight I had no info beyond the above. However, tonight I discovered that Thomas Morton is buried with Zadok Hunn, same cemetary in Canidagua, NY and that he was 59 years old. I still don't know when he came here or who he married or where in England he was born. In any case. the search goes on. If you can ad anything to the above, please let me know.

J.Pratt Curtis

Both were born in the 1830's in Missouri and/or Virginia.

Would also like info on James Waldo Hunn born on the Kickapoo reservation in Wright City, Missouri. Thank you.

They were my 3 greats grandparents on my grandmother, Juanita Johnson's (Trenary) side.

Anthony Hunn

I am searching for information and/or clarification on the relationship between Anthony Hunn B 1812 and Rivaner I Rule. I have Anthony Hunn married Rivaner on April 10, 1853. On the same page of the bible it is written that Anthony Hunn married Rebecca M. on Aug 31, 1870. I have found conflicting evidence. Is Anthony Hunn, married to Rivaner the Anthony Sr who immigrated to the US? Or is this Anthony Jr and this is a first marrriage? Also the 1840 Lincoln County Kentucky census lists a Anthony Hunn 30 to 35 years old, with a 5 year old male, and a 20/25 year old female in his household. How does this fit? I know that Anthony Hunn married to Rebecca M Adams had 10 children at least. One of them being John Anthony Hunn who was my husbands great great grandfather. Any advise would be so very helpful!
