YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March, 24, 2015 at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish at St. Matthias Catholic Church for John Joseph Hudak, 80, who passed away Wednesday evening in ValleyCare Northside Medical Center.
John was born Sept. 17, 1934, in Donora, PA., the son of John and Margaret Dudas Hudak.
He served in the U.S. Air Force.
He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from California State University and a Master’s Degree from Westminster College.
For 40 years, John worked for the Youngstown School System, where he taught Industrial Arts, Auto Maintenance and Drivers Ed at South High School.
He was also a guidance counselor at South and East High Schools.
He was a member of the church, the Slovak Balladiers, the Youngstown Retired Teachers Association, YEA, and the Board of Elections as a precinct head.
Serving as the president of YEA, he lead the first successful Youngstown Teachers strike.
He enjoyed making hand-crafted cradles for all his grandchildren and leatherworking. He had a kind heart and could never say no to anyone in need.
The best Christmas present he received was a Santa suit, which he used for many years to fulfill children’s dreams at local schools.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, the former Margaret Ann Rudinec, whom he married Sept. 8, 1956; his children, Regina Marie Hudak Rovnyak of Youngstown, Ohio, (Mahoning County) John Edward (Holly) Hudak of Chicago, Carol (Mark) Boles of Madison, N.C., and Maryann (Ronald) Lange of Marysville; grandchildren Angela Marie Rovnyak, Katherine Lena Hudak, Jeremy Ryan Lange, Christine Noel Hudak, Theresa Eileen Lange, Jennifer Elizabeth Lange, Monica Ann Lange and Dylan Christopher Boles; and brother and sisters Andrew (Barbara) Hudak of Monongahela, Pa., Mary Margaret Hudak of Phoenix and Margaret Mary Hudak of Lorain, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The Hudak family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell and will receive family and friends on Monday evening from 5 to 8 p.m and again on Tuesday morning from 9 to 10 a.m. at St. Matthias Church.
