Hey..I am having the same trouble myself. My grampa came to Malaysia too back in the 1900s, and my generation still keeps the tradition of having same middle names.
I applaud your enthusiasm in keeping such tradition alive. As much as I wanted to myself, this shall prove to be difficult if we have lost all contacts with our "relatives" back in China, or if our upper generations do not pass it down to us. It does not help knowing our parents have no idea in the lineage names.
What I know so far is that if we could at least identify the last ancestors point of embrakation in China, or their province origin, there's a high chance we could obtain a generation poem which may or may not reflect our lineage. Well, I guess that's the risk we must take.
