Hi Erik,

Thanks for your email and for the info. The migration map is great...only problem for me is that I can't read Chinese.

Is there a version of it in English? If not, I will have it translated (in pin yin and in "English" phoneticized Cantonese ) and make it available to all as soon as it is completed.

The Vancouver Public Library together with the Chinese Canadian Historical Society of British Columbia, Canada recently presented a full day seminar on Chinese Genealogy. They will have some info on their website on this soon (please be patient as it is all run by volunteers) ; their website is: http://www.cchsbc.ca/

I've traced my family back 10 generations, and the 10th ancestral name I have (the only recorded name) is "Jett Seung Doo" (in Cantonese). This was the name of my ancestor in the early to mid 1700's according to my late father.

When I visited my hastily arranged trip to my ancestral village, I tried to get some ancestral information, but my relation said all this was destroyed during the cultural revolution. I am sure if I had time to go back and search more diligently, I may be able to uncover a lot more info. I hope to return soon.

Here's another website I find quite interesting on Chinese Genealogy:

Keep in touch!
