Hi David,
No, I don't have a version of the map with place names in Pinyin. It will be great if you can translate the place names in Pinyin. Send me a copy once you have finished and I will put a link to it on the Chinese map.
The Cultural Revolution had done a lot of damage to our history and culture. When I was on my Root-searching trip in China, many old clansmen told me that they had witnessed the burning of Clan genealogies (which clansmen had meticulously updated and copied over the centuries) and the destruction of ancestral spiritual tablets and altar in the Clan temples. The Clan temples were all converted to village schools and other uses! But thanks to some courageous clansmen, who hid our genealogies (one was a hand-written copy dated 1565 from the Ming dynasty) from the Red Guards, we are able to trace our roots today. Records for 9 generations of my family line were destroyed in the Revolution! But many Chinese families are not that lucky as all their genealogical records were completely destroyed and they are unable to trace their lineage today.
