Re: To Jason Ng- Origin of Gangzhou Huang
Since we share a common ancestry, we are already real cousins :p

Hello Poay Lum,
Hope you will find some clues to start your root-searching trip.
The most important thing is to find out the name of your ancestral village in China.
I'm always here to help.

Re: To Jason Ng- Origin of Gangzhou Huang
Hi Erick,
I am really very honoured and happy you took the time to help me with this.:) Now armed with this knowledge and my grandfather's details, I am now ready to go seek my roots in China since I have the time... How do I start from here?

Re: To Jason Ng- Origin of Gangzhou Huang
Hi Jason,
Try to find the name of your ancestral village. Putian Shi is big and is made up of several counties, many towns and villages.
Although most Huang lineages in Putian belonged to the Gangzhou branch, some belonged to the other branches.
Try to ask the senior members of your family about any relatives living in Putian and try to look for old letters from relatives in China.
When you get the information, please post it here.
Regards,
Erik Huang

Gangzhou Huang CORRECTION!!!
I made a mistake!
Huang Tao was the founder ancestor of Dongli Huang of Putian (in Fujian), NOT Gangzhou Huang!
Huang Juzheng (b.1152) was the founder ancestor of Gangzhou Huang (Gangzhou was a name of a region in Guangdong). Gangzhou Huang is a branch of Hanjiang Huang of Putian.
Genealogy of Hanjiang Huang (of Putian, Fujian) and Gangzhou Huang (of Guangdong):
112. Huang Chong 113. Huang Qingying 114. Huang An 115. Huang Dian- Ancestor of Hanjiang Huang of Putian. 116. Huang Gunqian 117. Huang Bingong 118. Huang Huiqing 119. Huang Shu 120. Huang Hantao 121. Huang Zhengyan 122. Huang Kao 123. Huang Mingxu 124. Huang De 125. Huang Chang 126. Huang Chengluo 127. Huang Juzheng (b.1152)- the descendants of Huang Juzheng are known as Gangzhou Huang. Gangzhou Huang is a branch of Hanjiang Huang.
Genealogy of Dongli Huang (of Putain, Fujian):
112. Huang Chong 113. Huang Qingjia 114. Huang Sun 115. Huang Bingzhe 116. Huang Chou 117. Huang Tao- Ancestor of Dongli Huang of Putian.
Both Hanjiang Huang and Dongli Huang of Putian shared a common ancestry from Huang Chong.

Phew. I finally managed to find this website again. Well ... I still haven't managed to find a thing about my ancestral village. No one in my family seems willing to help me. I emailed relatives to ask and they all gave me half heartedly answers with disinterest in their words. I haven't been able to go back far into my family. My mother has helped me track down as back to my greatgrand father and great grand mother, but that is all I have. The information I need is probably somewhere out there but I don't know how to find it. All I have recently found out is about a certain family member that passed away about two or three years ago who was the sister of my greatgrand mother making her my great aunt. If I knew then, I would've asked her. I don't know what to do.

When I first began my root-searching quest, many relatives also gave me a lot of discouragements. But never give up easily. U may take sometime to gather information like I did. Believe me, your perseverance will pay off.
The Qing Ming festival is near. Take this opportunity to inquire from your relatives again when you gather for ancestor worship and tomb-sweeping. Also try to look for clues from your ancestor tombs. Usually the name of your ancestral village is inscribed on the tombtsones. Good luck!

Wow. It has been quite some time I last wrote a message to you, Erik. I see your Huang Genealogy website is no longer up, which came as a bit of as a disappointment to me since the last I was there, I was finally able to trace my lineage back enough to match some of my ancestors with the same ones as yours. I was very surprised, and I took it as to mean you and I are of distant relations. I wouldn't mind showing the lineage I traced (though however amateurish my sleuthing has been, haha). Mostly, I looked to see if the names of predecessors were the same, and if the important matched the ones you had on your website. That's how I could tell you and I had some of the same ancestors.
Also, since I last spoke to you, my chinese has greatly improved. I am nowhere near fluent, of course, but I can read and write most of basic and intermediate characters -- only in traditional characters, since this is the style I learned chinese in (trying to double and study simplified characters is too difficult for me).
I have a question as well. Considering most recent of my written family genealogy includes only sons born in the huang family, where might I possibly find the missing female descendant names? Is that even possible? For example, my father's sisters are not in the official written genealogy of my father's, but I am able to keep track of their names and lineages because I have personal knowledge of their chinese names, and the names of their spouses as well as their living children. I cannot say how old is the genealogy book my father has nor am I sure of if there has been a newly updated version, or if I could somehow get a copy of the new version, but I am estimating the one my father has is least 10 years old and outdated. I am not aware of how many years per the genealogy book is updated (my father's genealogy book was written by several Huang branch members in Taiwan).
