Jeanne,

I will be traveling to Slovenia next year and was investigating the family tree where I came across your posting. My great grandfather was Frank Hribar of Duluth, my grandfather was Joseph Hribar of Lorain, Ohio, and my father was John Hribar of Sheffield Lake Ohio. My father was the youngest of thirteen brothers and sisters. As a child, I spent a lot of time at the family home in Lorain with grandfather Joseph and my aunt and uncle Rosemarie and Phillip Hribar. All of the brothers and sisters are now deceased. My father John was the last to pass away eight years ago.

You were inquiring about dates in your posting. Before Rosemarie passed away, she gave me the copies of great grandfather Frank Hribar's citizenship papers and grandfather Joseph's baptismal certificate that she had saved.

Frank did move to Duluth and applied for citizenship on October 18th, 1888. He was granted full citizenship 10 years later on October 19th, 1897.

Your great grandfather was baptized on July 20th, 1882 (and I would assume born July 1882) in Skofija Ljubljanaska in the Diocese of Lubacensis. Skofija is one of the first towns settled in Slovenia and is about fifteen miles from the capitol of Ljubljana. A little fact about grandfather Joseph is that when he retired from United States Steel Corporation he was the first steel worker in the United States to receive a pension set up by Andrew Carnegie for the steel workers. After he retired he bought a white parakeet that he let fly from it's cage around the house. It would sit on his bald head while he smoked unfiltered camel cigarettes and drank bohemian beer.

Hope this information is helpful. I have may other stories.

Regards,
Dennis
