Regarding Estella in the 1930 Census in Belle Plaine, IA: I think her son's name was Frederick B. Hrabak. I also suspect she was married to the Fred W. Hrabak, a watchmaker who was living in a hotel in Ottumwa, IA at the time of the census. If these folks are your family, I have a lot more information, and a photo of Fred W.

The photo I have is of Frederick William (or "Fritz") as a young man, playing the clarinet in a country band called the Gretsea Harmonie Orchestra. Other members of the band are a sister and brother. It's a charming bit of folk history from a book on Tama County history. I can scan it and e-mail it to you. I also have a descendant tree from Vencil Hrabak, the GF of Fritz, but I'll contact you privately about that.

Hi, I have Hrabak ancestors who lived in the villages of Jivina and Svata Dobrotiva (Zajecov). These villages are about 10 miles east of Plzen. I am in touch with Hrabaks in several areas of U.S. and know of Hrabak kin in Pribram which is just east of Zajecov.

My GGM Marie Hrabak immigrated in 1886 (after losing a first husband) to join her brothers John, Albert and Vaclav/James who came about 1881 and settled in western PA, to work the coal fields in the Connellsville and Mt Pleasant areas. Parents were Wencl and Josephine, and they were born in the 1850s. Marie was born in either 1848 or 1850, depends on the source. They were from the Pilsen area---one married a girl from Cheznovice, had photos taken in Rokycan, all of this was 6-12 miles east of the city. Might there be a match with your families there?
All had large families, James' branch moved to Cleveland area between 1910 -20 or so.

I'm researching the Hrabak's in Fayette, PA.
John Hrabak - b. 1856 in Pelsen, Bohemia. He had 2 brothers James and Albert and a sister named Marie.
John married Marie Vild in 1884. They had 9 children: Hugo who died at age 4, Sylvia (my grandmother) who married John Westphal, Charles who married Elizabeth Vishninsky, Lottie who married Arthur Smitley, Ella married & divorced Hugh Mulac, Carrie married Frank Gallagher, Albert married Elizabeth ? John never married Bessie married George McGee All stayed in Fayette County. Lottie and husband moved to Cleveland, Ohio where some of the Vild relatives lived.
Any connection?
I'm trying to get John and Marie's naturalization papers and find out more about where they came from. If anyone has any suggestions on how to do this I'd love to hear from you.

Hi,
I am sorry it took me a while to get back to you. I had surgery a few weeks ago and was not able to get to the computer. Yes, I think we have a connection as my Hrabaks lived in several villages in the Cheznovice and Jivina area. I will look through my research and see what I can find. I will get back to you asap. Joe
