My great grandfather, Anton Hojda, came from the former Czechoslovakia, which was then part of the Austrian Empire, so he was an Austrian citizen. Anton had only one son, John Hoyda, and John had one son, also named John. I have not been able to trace the Hojda family back any further than Anton. Anton and his wife are buried in a Catholic cemetery, but he may have been Jewish and became a Catholic when he married.
