New York Hoys - Cecilia?

My great-grandmother was named Cecilia Hoy, according to an obituary of my grandfather. In the 1940 census record of her, she was listed as being 27 years old, so she would have been born around 1913. She was married to John Maloney. It says that she was born in New York. Eventually, to be with her husband, she moved to Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey. Her husband was also 27 in 1940. Their children were John, Cecile, Patricia, and David. On 9/15/1956, at the age of 51 (according to information from the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark), she was interred in the Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, Bergen County, New Jersey. This makes, no sense because it would mean she was born in 1905; I believe that the age of her interment is incorrect, and that she was 41, not 51. I could not find her in a 1930 or 1920 census record. If anyone has information about her or her family, it would be appreciated.
-chrysaorasterion@gmail.com

Betty Ann Hoy - Chicago, IL

Hi!
I'm looking for any information on Betty Ann Hoy. My grandmother recently passed away and in sorting out her estate we discovered the court records pertaining to my Mother's adoption. We always knew my mom was adopted but we never knew her biological mother's name. My mom was born on 4/22/50 and adopted from The Cradle adoption agency in Illinois. According to the court papers her only surviving parent was Betty Ann Hoy. The only other information I have is the fact that music was very important to her. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to know where I came from. It feels like a huge part of my history is missing. I'm hoping that perhaps you can help me find it :)

It now APPEARS that George Davidson/Davison was a member of DNA "Family 5" (out of Prince Edward Co., VA) and that the associated Edward Davidson was a member of the unrelated DNA "Family 10" (out of Buckingham Co., VA)....albeit no proof. See www.davidsongenes.org. George Davidson was a Major in Rev War out of Anson Co., NC (he served under Colonel David Love). Captain William Hoy served under Major George Davidson, and Lt. Edward Davidson served under Captain William Hoy. I still suspect that Lt. Edward Davidson was the Edward Davidson, Junior who had been an overseer for William Hoy back in Buckingham Co., VA (per the 1773 tithe list there).

Proof that Mary F. Graves' maiden name was Newland has been obtained from the probate records of Ambrose Dudley Newland in Lincoln County, Kentucky. He was her Uncle. Mary F. Graves is clearly identified as Mrs. J. E. Graves, nee Newland, the child of William W. Newland. She's not mentioned by name in the will, but is listed in the probate records.

I am looking for people who believe they may descend from the Hoy family in Fairfield, SC, to do autosomal DNA test or if you have a male Hoy line to do yDNA test. You do NOT have to be a male or even have the Hoy surname to do the autosomal DNA. I have autosomal DNA results at Ancestry, 23andme and GEDmatch. I am awaiting results of yDNA test for a male subject from my Hoy line. I would also be interested in knowing if any other Hoys from SC, VA, PA have done yDNA or willing to do yDNA test to see if we are related.

Still stuck with no real proof of Mary F.'s maiden name, however, unless a marriage record is found. Thanks for your help. I'll post again if i find something.

Their daughter Sarah Elizabeth was my maternal Grandmother's Mother. She and my Mother and me all were born in Texas. John and William both served togeather in the Civil War.
John Newland, born 10 Jan 1784 in Washington County, VA married Celia Hoy, born 20 Jul 1788 in KY, on 16 May 1805 in Madison County, KY. They lived in Madison County until 1847, then moved to a farm in Lincoln County, located between Stanford and Crab Orchard, where they remained throughout their lives. John died 24 Sep 1861, and Celia 25 Sep 1864. John died in Lincoln County, while my file shows Celia died in Madison County. Both were originally buried in the Lincoln County family cemetery on the farm. Sometime in the late 1800s they were reburied at Buffalo Springs Cemetery at Stanford. John and Celia had ten known children. They were:
1.	Abraham Hoy, born 6 Sep 1808.
2.	John Clover, born about 1810.
3.	Polly, born 4 Jan 1814.
4.	William W, about 1815.
5.	Ambrose Dudley, born 20 Jan1818.
6.	Anderson Christopher, born 18 Jun 1821.
7.	Sarah Ann, born 1 Jan 1822
8.	Richard T, 29 Feb 1824.
9.	Jacob W, born 25 Dec 1826.
10.	Perthenia Elizabeth, born about 1827.
The will of John Newland may be in the Lincoln County KY Library at Stanford KY. I don't live near KY.
Gene Martin

I am sorry I did not reply - I have only just seen your message. James Hoy is also a family name and Hoy was often spelt as Hoey on records. I did find out from one article that many of the village (Ballymacarrick) went to SC. Hope this helps. I think the fact that they were protestant also goes with the family name. The early records go back as far a Pict times in N. Ireland and W. lowland of Scotland ( Kingdom of Dalriada).

John Booker Hoy, brother of William Hoy of "Hoy's Station" in KY

John Booker Hoy sold some land in January 1787 in Campbell Co., VA that he co-owned with another couple. That deed showed that the land was next to some land that was owned by David Mosby Davidson. David Mosby Davidson, as well as his parents Edward Davidson, Senior and Agnes Mosby, had left Buckingham Co., VA around 1780 or so, and they moved to the part of Bedford Co., VA that became Campbell Co., VA in 1782. The above Edward Davidson, Senior had another son who was named Edward Davidson, Junior, and Edward "Junior" had been an overseer for William Hoy in Buckingham Co., VA, per the 1773 Buckingham Co., VA tithe list.

It is now known that Edward Davidson, Junior was later in Anson Co., NC with William Hoy, and Edward "Junior" was a Lt. who served in the militia under: a) Captain William Hoy, b) Major George Davison (who was from an unrelated Davison family that was out of Prince Edward Co., VA) and c) Colonel Love. There was a later man in Anson Co., NC (and later still in Montgomery Co., NC) who was named William Hoy Davidson, and I strongly suspect that he was a son Edward Davidson, Junior.

It appears that all of the daughters of William Hoy have been "accounted for." Does anyone know, however, the names of the daughters of John Booker Hoy....and could one of them perphaps have married Edward Davidson, Junior (probably back in Buckingham Co., VA while Edward Davidson, Junior was working for William Hoy there)? One of John Booker Hoy's apparent three wives was a "Mosby widow"....and since Edward Davidson, Senior had married an Agnes Mosby, that would seem to also "connect" John Booker Hoy to the family of Edward Davidson, Senior. Comments/questions on any of the above? Thanks!

Thanks so much! David Mosby Davidson was a son of Edward Davidson, Senior and Agnes Mosby, and David Mosby Davidson was an apparent brother of the the younger Edward Davidson "Junior" who died in Anson Co., NC around 1777.

By the way, it now seems almost certain that the George Davison (who was a Major in the Rev. War who served under Colonel Love) who tended to the Anson Co., NC estate of the younger Edward Davidson (who was a Lt. who served under Captain William Hoy, Major George Davison and Colonel Love) was a member of the unrelated Davison family that came into Prince Edward Co., VA by at least 1743. Major George Davison (sometimes shown as "Davidson") was a member of DNA "Family 5," while Lt. Edward Davidson "Junior" was a member of DNA "Family 10" out of Buckingham Co., VA (at www.davidsongenes.org). John Booker Hoy was a brother of the above Captain William Hoy, and Edward Davidson "Junior" had been an overseer for William Hoy (per the 1773 Buckingham Co., VA tithe list).

The other 32 acres was deed by gift by Samuel Gilbert decd to his dau., Mary Welch, and is bounded by the above mentioned land, Rogers' Br, David Terrell, Phelps Rd & Seneca Cr, it being the place & plantation where John Welch lived and died.
