Surnames: Howard
I have traced my branch of the Howard family to Kansas & Vermont. I found Giles Parker Howard in Topeka, Shawnee, Kansas, b. 05 Nov 1862 and his father Cyrus Greely Howard in Vermont, b. 12 Mar 1823.

I know that Cyrus married Nancy Kneeland in Vermont in 1848, so I surmize that Cyrus moved from Vermont to Kansas sometime after 1848, but before 1862. Seems reasonable, right? Does anyone have any information about exactly when and why he moved?

In Vermont, I found a Solomon Howard that could be Cyrus' grandfather, but I don't know anything about any intervening generations. Does anyone have any information about Solomon or his children? I found him on the "1840 Census of Pensioner Revolutionary or Military Services."

According to that census, he was from Andover, Windsor, Vermont. This is also where Cyrus was born. However, the census puts him at 83 years old in 1840 which would make him 66 when Cyrus was born in 1823, hence my suspicion of an intervening generation.
