House/Silverman question and DNA query

Posted: 8 Feb 2015 5:57PM GMT
Classification: Query
Surnames: House Silverman Cohen Sacks Greenberg
My mother's father's father, Israel Cohen, and his wife Rose/Ruchel
(House) Cohen, came to Boston, MA from Russia around 1900, and settled
in Malden, MA by 1910 (according to the US Census).

There was a Silverman family - Abraham Silverman who married Annie E.
Greenberg. When Israel and Rose came to the US, they stayed near
Abraham and Annie. Abraham's parents were Max (Mordechai) Silverman
and Tillie (Toba) House. It is not believed Max and Tillie left
Russia.

Through research and reaching out to relatives, my mom and I learned,
through independent family stories, that Max and Tillie changed their
surnames. It is believed the surname should have been House, or
close to it (the equivalent in German translation). We also learned
that Abraham and Rose were siblings. This would have explained why
they stuck together when they came here from Russia. We also learned
there was a third sibling, Mary (House) Sacks who married a Nathan
Sacks. Rumor has it he may not have liked the US and returned to
Russia. This was after Mary and Nathan had a few children. This
would mean that Abraham and Mary were my great grand uncle and aunt,
which is why I focused on Abraham's parents' names and not on his
wife, Annie's.

My family lines all settled in the Boston area around the start of the 1900s.

Does this House story sound familiar to anyone? Any of the names resonate?

Israel Cohen's US Citizenship paperwork indicates they were from
Vilna, Russia, though my mom recalls Ruchel saying they were from
"Minsk" or "Pinsk". Still looking into this, as I'd also _love_ to
know of any siblings/uncles/aunts Israel may have had. The only
other known, noted family, were from his grave marker and death
certificate - parents Samuel and Marcia.

Israel and Rose held a 50th wedding anniversary formal party in the
Boston area in 1948, and names my mom recalled helped me build out
family trees for some of the people. It was not known, at that time,
how, exactly they were related. Only after I researched the families
did they all turn out to be connected to Rose. Thus, the reason I
_really_ want to learn more about Israel's line.

I have an active tree on ancestry.com I'm happy to share with anyone.
I've also DNA tested with ancestry, 23andme, and Family Tree DNA.
My Gedmatch ID - http://www.gedmatch.com - is F316712.

I am really hoping I can also find a relative who descends from Abraham and Annie who is willing to DNA test so I can run more specific comparisons as well.

Thanks to all.
