GEORGE HOUSE DIES IN THERESA

Highly Respected Citizen Passes Away

WAS NEARLY 83 YEARS OLD

For Many Years He Was Prominent Farmer In Theresa –
Suffered Stroke of Paralysis Days Before Death

Theresa, July 7 – The death of George House, so aged and highly respected resident of this village, occurred on Wednesday noon at the Theresa hospital. Mr. House had been about his home on River street in ordinary health on Saturday. He resided with his daughter Mrs. Herbert Wecks, and so Saturday afternoon, as Mr. & Mrs. Wecks planned to spend a couple of days at Red Lake, he entered their carriage and went across the village to the hospital to remain until their return. He was in good health when he retired but suffered a shock shortly after , from which he never recovered.

He was born in Herkimer County on Aug 20, 1827 being aged nearly 83 years. His parents were Jacob and Bessie House, who located at an early date in the town of Orleans, being pioneers in that section. By industry and thrift he became the owner of an excellent farm at Orleans Four Corners upon which he resided until about 25 years ago, when he purchased a place in the village and retired from active work. During the days of the civil war he purchased milk and engaged in the manufacturing of limburger cheese.

On Oct 13, 1859 he was united in marriage to Miss Julia Ford, Rev. Mr. Euspy of Orleans being the officiating clergyman. Mrs. House’s death occurred April 2, 18?7. Mr. House married again married, his second wife being Mrs. Catherine Peck. Her death occurred three years ago.

Mr. House was a leader in the Lutheran church at Orleans Four Corners and upon his coming to this village united with the Methodist church, being a trustee for a number of years.

There are four children, Mrs. Emma Pool of Watertown, Herman House of Orleans Four Corners, Mrs. Herbert Wecks of this village and Ford House of Watertown. He is survived by a brother, Jacob House of Orleans and one sister, Mrs. Bessie Clarke of Detroit.

The funeral will be held from his late home on River street on Friday afternoon, Rev. W.J. Haneock, his pastor, officiating. Burial will be at the family plot at Oakwood cemetery.
