I have the names of children, Mary, Minnie, Alace or Alice, Ella, Daniel and John.

I need to drive back to see some relatives anyway so will probably check out local records.

I don't have information on Robert or any of Cleaver and Frances Hourigan's children, but I do have info on Cleaver. He was the son of Samuel Tilden Hourigan and Mattie Powars. Cleaver was born May 8, 1912 in Marion County. The family lived first near Gravel Switch and later in Lebanon. Samuel Tilden Hourigan (my great uncle) was born July 29, 1876 and died May 10, 1959. Mattie Powars Hourigan was born March 11, 1888, and died Jan. 21, 1972. They are both buried in the Hourigan Cemetery behind Beech Fork Baptist Church in Gravel Switch. For more information on the Hourigan Family, see my database on Rootsweb, CWAncestors. I remember "Uncle Sam" well -- he was born near the country's 100th birthday and the whole family knew him as Uncle Sam. Even his mailbox was designed as "Uncle Sam."

I am hoping someone can help me. I am trying to confirm that the mother of Charles L. Brown (1912-1955) was Mary Hourigan Raleigh Brown, born in May of 1871 in NY to Daniel and Mary Hourigan of Oswego. It looks like her first husband, John Raleigh died young leaving her with 4 children: May, Harold, Alice and Rowan. If this Mary married 2nd Francis "Frank" Brown of Syracuse and had 4 more children: Francis, Fred, Charles & Marion, does anyone know if her father Daniel, was the one who worked on the ships? Also, if anyone connects to her, do you know anything about Frank Brown or what happened to John Raleigh? Thanks in advance!

Thank you for your contact. Unfortunately there is no connection to the O'Briens. My ancestors did not come to Australia until late 1870s.
Incidently Lattin is in Co Tipperary not Co Clare. There may be a place called Latten in Co Clare.
Thanks again
John Hourigan

Did you ever get any responses to your request? My research pretty much verifies what you have found so far. Mary was my Great Grand Mother, and John my Great Grand Father. I have tried to trace them back further, I have found Mary's parents (Daniel Hourigan and Mary Conic from Ireland and England respectively). Daniels parents were Daniel and Mary again, but I have absolutely no other information.

So if you have found anything I would like to hear. We are planning a trip to Ireland in the next year or two so would like to have some information so we can go look things up while we are there.

Hourigans from Co. Clare to NY and WI

Looking for anyone with information about Hourigan families from Cratloe Co. Clare Ireland. I know Catherine born 1822 married John Baker in 1850 in Ireland then they emigrated to the US with her brother James born 1823. They settled in New York and had three sons there 1851-56, then moved to Neenah, Wisconsin where they had 4 more sons and a daughter. Catherine had a brother who remained in Ireland he married and had 13 children, some died young, but his wife and at least 10 children emigrated to New York between 1892 and 1906 and lived in Brooklyn, I can't find them on any census records, any one who can help or has any suggestions of where to look next, it wound be most appreciated!

I am reserching a John Hourigan who married Margaret Hayes in 1850 in Lattin, South Tipperary They had 14 children, one of whom was John Hourigan born/baptised on 4/8/1851. Four of the children came to Australia in the late 1870s - John wasn't one of them. I've been able to trace the 4 who came here but I have only started research in Ireland for the rest of the family.
Good luck
John Hourigan
