Thanks, Bill! Neat info. NEHGS only sent me the page from Samuel on from the Charles Davis book (not anything about Sam's grandfather) but they also sent me stuff from "Descendants of William Hough of Connecticut" by Elida Crofoot Hough and his father, Franklin B. Hough; there's a personal letter written by Granville W. Hough as well as other material from Granville's book "Hough and Huff Families of the United States, 1620-1820." It has that Samuel's father, William, was born circa 1619 in Westchester (one word), Cheshire, England and died 10 Aug 1683 in New London, CT.
The second map offered here:
http://www.antiquemaps.com/uk/chesh.htm mentions a road from York to West Chester.
Anyway, the "Descendents" paper says Samuel was born 9 March 1653 and agrees he Samuel died 14 March 1718. What I find interesting is that his eldest sibling, 5 years older than he, William's firstborn, was a "Hannah." That has to add to the Hannah confusion :-)
Your article sounds great, let me know the info if it gets published so I can get a copy/read it.
