Does anyone have any history of there being tailors in their Horsefield/Horsfield family around the start of the 1800`s or before? My g-g-grandfather, William Horsefield, who was born about 1818, was a tailor all his life and according to his 1847 marriage certificate, so was his father James, who was deceased at the time of the marriage. I cannot find a James Horsefield who was a tailor in the 1841 census, so it is possible he died before then. William spent all his adult life living in Southwark, London but I cannot find a baptism for him in the area so he may have been born elsewhere. As the surname is most common in the north of England, the fact that they were both tailors could indicate a link with the textile industry in the north of England. Any thoughts on this appreciated.
