Not sure yet! In the 17th & 18th century, my lot seemed to be under the Prestwich registry for births. I understand that they were based in the Bury area at that time which is close to Edgeworth/Turton Bottoms. They subsequenty moved up to the Rossendale Valley.

This is not my branch of the Horrocks. My grandmother was Annie from Bolton, and I have traced her back to Adam@ 1600. But I came across a Mary horrocks who was one of the sisters of John, the Cotton King. She married john Whitehead in Bolton in 1796, and they had John and Walter Horrocks Whitehead. There was a Whitehead who became a partner of John, I don't know if this is the same one. My Grandfather Samuel henrymarried Emily Whitehead in 1886, but this lot were Methodists and unlikely to be directly related

I have just obtained new information and have uploaded Mary Horrocks and John Whitehead, married 14 Sep 1796 at Bolton, to my RootsWeb WorldConnect database, horrocks. Mary is indeed a sister to John and Samuel, the founders of Horrocks & Co. in Preston. Those siblings are my first cousins, 7 times removed. I'm descended from their first cousin, Henry, who operated the Stone Mill for John and Samuel. Henry lived in Vale House, still standing, in Turton Bottom, near Edgworth, just north of Bolton
