Hi Margaret

My wife is a descendent from the Georg and Louise Hornbostel, via their son Edward who lived in Puslinch Ontario. You note in one posting Edward was a twin. Do you have further information about Edward and can you confirm the location of Birkenfeld, in Oldenburg in Germany. We hope to visit some time. I note their is a small town named Hornbostel somewhere in Germany. Your previous generations of Britzius..this sounds interesting..to what year backwards have you gone so far?

cheers, Peter

I have accumulated considerably more genealogical data about the Britzius family in Germany since we connected in May 2004. I have some additional information about George Hornbostel, son of Julius and Anna Ritter Hornbostel, from his granddaughter, J. Britton. So far I have not posted a public family tree, partly because I just have not taken the time to do so and largely because I feel the need to validate my data sources before putting the information out on the web. You suggested that we share data via a GED file and email. I am fine with that. My email address is tim1713@comcast.net. Let me know how to contact you and I will send a GED file as soon as I check my facts and review my data sources. Margaret

Most of the information I have is about Louise, who was my great-grandmother's sister. (My great-grandmother was Dorothea Catharina Britzius Grimm.) Georg Friedrich and Louise Philippine Britzius Hornbostel were from Birkenfeld, Germany. Louise was born about 1819 in Birkenfeld, Germany and died before 1860. Georg and the rest of the family immigrated to the United States about 1860. George and Louisa were married 28 November 1839 in Birkenfeld, Germany. The International Genealogical Index has records for the christening of several of their children in Evangelisch, Birkenfeld, Oldenburg, Germany. According to the list of children I have, Georg and Louise had 12 children, including one set of twins (Edward B and Julius C, born in February 1853.) The two youngest sons, Julius C and Albert Carl lived in Warrick and Vanderburg Counties in Southern Indiana. They, along with Charlotte Hornbostel Mowers who lived in Utica, NY, but made several visits to Southern Indiana, were the Hornbostels known to my relatives, the Grimm and Britzius families who had immigrated from Birkenfeld, Germany to Southern Indiana in 1847. I have genealogical data for the Britzius family in Birkenfeld and Achtelsbach, Germany that goes back 8 generations. My source of data came from transcripts of parish records published in book and CD format by Rudi Jung

I do have some information about Georg & Louise Philippine Britzius Hornbostel. Louise Philippine was my great-grandmother, Dorothea Catharina Britzius Grimm's, sister. According to the information I have, Louise died in Germany before the rest of the family immigrated to America. Families of Albert and Julius Hornbostel lived in the Evansville, IN area as did my family. Let me know if this sounds like the right family; I can provide additional information.
My mother and father were both Hornbostels. Our family came from the Muden/Ortez area northeast of Hannover. I believe that the architect you may be looking for is henry Hornbostel wo was a prominent architect in Pittsburgh and was a founder of the Carnegie Tech Dept of Aarch. (now Carnegie Mellon Univ.) He was also with firms in NY. I think I originally found this information through www.genealogy.org , the Mormon/Latter day Saints libraries. You might also check out this site www.library.cmu.edu/Libraries/Architecture/hornbostel.html. One page that I found has a picture of him and others including his brother, Edward.Hope this may be of use to you.

I am interested in your Wiehl connection. My Wiehl relatives came from Kings County Brooklyn. I don't think that it is a very common name and am hoping to find a connection with the Wiehl's that were in Brooklyn. Do you know who her parents were? Any other information will be appreciated. Thanks Doreen Wiehl Polovchena
I was just going through the message board and could not remember if I ever saw your message. I have gone as far back as the civil war. My great great grandfather came over from germany. I do not know if he had relatives her or if he came over with any. He did come over on the same ship with his wife Maria Engessou' . They had a son Adolf who was orphaned at 12 yrs old. He married Magdelena Fuzinsky. They had two children Frances and Joseph. Frances married Peter Hagen and had 2 children. Joseph(my grandfather) married Catherine Stocker. They had 6 children and raised 2 from Joseph's first marriage. His first wife died of TB.I wish I knew more, if any of this sounds familiar, please contact me.
They all lived in Brooklyn. Thanks Doreen
If I've already written please disregard.
