HOPE family, Salford Manchester

I am currently trying to trace my family tree on my mother's side.

My grandfather Ernest Hope (born 1st October 1882) lived with my Grandmother Dorothy Hope (also called Dora, nee Meadowcroft) in a shop at 27 West Ashton Street, Salford. They only had one daughter Dorothy Hope (born 1937), who attended St Ambroses school.
Ernest's father was called Thomas Hope and his mother was Mary Ann Hope (nee Carr). They had 2 other sons Tommy (Thomas), unfortunatley we do not know the name of the other son, however we believe he emigrated to Australia. They also had 2 daughters, Ada and Florence. We think Florence married the son of a Lord Mayor of Salford (Edwin Mather) and they had 2 daughters, one called Vera.

If any one has anymore info or even better pictures this would be fantastic.

I am hoping you still check the boards, turns out that
Wilbur (not Wilbert, an error on my mothers birth certificate) is the brother of James Devail Hope. Their father, Frederick, is quite a mystery thusfar. I have yet to track down any parentage for him. I found him in a childrens hope in Norwalk in 1880 census. I have a very nice picture of James and his wife at a young age. The other children were Lillian Mae, Robert, and Wesley. I got the picture from a VanWagner in Norwalk - who apparently didn't appreciate the memorial I had sent to the paper, so she will no longer respond to me.
Anywho...again, I know it's been a while, but hoping you still check the boards.

Hi Ed,
I know it's been a long time...but I was wondering if you had found any further information. It turns out, if I am correct that James Devail Hope, is my grandfathers (Wilbur) brother. Wilbur died in his 50's so you may not have known him. I am still searching for information on their father, Frederick Hope. I hope you still check the boards...I have a great picture of James and his wife when they were quite young. I am assuming of course that we are talking about the same James Hope. (Mother - Hattie Slauson)

Your post is 9 years old so I hope I can still reach you. Lavinia Hope was my grandmother's aunty. She raised my granny as her own mother died at the age of 22. I knew Donzil and he still has family living in Jackmans, Barbados which is where my family still live.

I just found out my great-great grandmother was Henrietta Hope, born 1828 at Cape Town, South Africa. She married my great-great grandfather, Thomas Penn (born 1830 at Worcestershire, England, and they lived in Staffordshire, England. One of their sons is John Herbert Penn, my great grandfather. I was born in New Zealand and now live in the U.S.

I am hoping against hope(how about that for a turn of phrase?!) that your grandfather William is in our Hope plot. There are several Hope plots at Lakeview. One of them is Terry Hope's family, and the other is William and David Hope which is my Hope family. We need to find out who your William's father was. Can we trace anyone back to David and Corinne? If you aren't related to me, you're related to Terry and I'll hook you up with him. He's got a ton of information he can share with you, too. Either way you're going to get to know some new relatives!!!! My Hope plot has a large upright gray stone with the name Hope on it. In the picture Terry Hope sent me someone has placed some blue and white silk flowers on the top. Buried there are William, Mary, David, Corinne, and Nathan. Terry Hope's family is very close to the big cross in the middle of the road. Our Hope plot is a little further to the left of it(north). I live in St. Paul, Minnesota and posted this query on RootsWeb. Terry Hope contacted me, thinking we were related(he lives just outside of Johnston City), but so far we haven't been able to find a link between his Hopes and mine. You can have any close (brother, cousin) HOPE male relative tested and compare his profile with those of the 19 Hope males whose profiles have already been identified in the Hope DNA Surname Project (www.hopednaproj.com). Hope DNA Surname Project - Current Status

Hello Hopes,
The Hope DNA Surname Project has grown to a total of 33 individuals having been tested. We now have 24 Y-DNA (follows the male line) participants who have fit into four groups with seven unmatched individuals (four of whom have Hope ancestry but not the Hope surname)and one whose data is as yet unreported. These tested individuals (excluding the one whose results are unreported) represent seven lines in the US, South Africa and Scotland. These results can be seen at the Hope DNA Surname Project web site (http://www.hopednaproj.com)

We have had 9 individuals who have had their mtDNA tested to assess maternal lineages. Three of these match on the low resolution HVR1 test. This match, however, doesn't necessarily mean that these individuals share a common ancestor within the genealogical time period.

We would like to encourage all Hope males to join the project. We would like to have representatives from every Hope line internationally but would particularly encourage US Hopes to participate. Hope females can participate by encouraging a male Hope cousin, brother, father, uncle, etc. to act as their surrogate. Hope mtDNA participants are welcome as well. One can join directly from the project website. Questions or information on joining the project can be directed to me (gmhope@ufl.edu).

They had two sons. V. Y. Hope b.abt. 1862 and Riley Mack
b. 19 Sept.1864 d.30 Oct.1931.
On Riley Mack Hope death cert. it states FANNIE OWENS was his mother and A. M. Hope was his father.

My gg grandfather was Dominic Hope b. 1821 Ballina Co Mayo. In 1840 in Backs/Knockmore he married Mary McHale b. 1823 Co Mayo. They emigrated to Birmingham England around 1850. I am descended from their son Michael. There may be some connection.

I too have been searching for this information. Last year I emailed you a photo for Mollie hope and the family, hopy you received it.
What I have is my father-in-laws mother was Sophornie Hope, her parents were Andy Hope (Rev. A.G. Hope) and Mollie Dove Polk b: 5 Feb 1872 d: 22 Aug 1965 in Heards Prairie Petteway cemetery Robertson County. Mollie's parents were Nelson Edward Polk b: 2 Apr 1862 in Illinois m: 6 Dec 1885 in Barry Mo. d: 13 Nov 1913 in Clover Hill Cemetery Lott, Tx and wife Emiliy Milam b: 25 May 1858 in Kentucky d: 3 Apr 1947. I might have more information in my file, but this is what i have at my fingertips. Hope this helps and maybe we can find out information on this together. My father-in-law thinks there was a fire at the place where the records were kept so there is not any records of birth. I have not verified this.

I am trying to learn the parents of Richard Hope, born 19 September 1813 in New Brunswick, NJ and died there 31 August 1880. On 23 October 1839 he married Adaline Runkle, dau. of Henry Runkle and Elizabeth Rea. According to the 1880 US census his parents were both born in NJ. At one time he was proprietor of the County Hotel and kept a livery stable in New Brunswick. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

My grandpas name is ralph william hope jr. and his dad was ralph william hope. he has two sisters janice and frannie who are still living. my family plot is the one closest to the cross. maybe we can still find a link between the two because like i said ive never known of a hope family in johnston city i wasnt related to. if this helps there is a bill hope that i didnt thik i was related to and it ended up that he was somewhere down the line... im guessing that was your family and i will try to find out how. maybe its the missing peice!!
