Re: Hood Family Lines From the Hood DNA Project

my name is Gloria Hood, husband is Mitchell Hood.I have been doing family tree. George Taylor Hood is father and as for as I can go is William Henry Hood and Winnifred Elizbeth reed hood, trying to find if Solomon Hood or John Philip Hood is William Henry Hoods father. If my husband does test will it be able to tell us more than we already know. I would like to know if he is any relation to John Bell Hood since he looks a lot like him, great cousin or something. can you go beyond the William Henry line since you do not know his father.

New book on the John and Richard Hood clan

The new book, The John and Richard Hood Clan, has been published and is available for purchase. It is an in-depth examination of the John and Richard Hood clan that lived in Halifax County, Virginia in the 1760s, moved to Burke County, North Carolina circa 1774 and then to Pendleton District, South Carolina around 1789. From there, some of the family moved to neighboring Greenville District, South Carolina. Through a genealogical paper trail and genealogical DNA testing, the following lines are descended from John and Richard Hood:

1) Thomas Hood: 1762-1837. A Revolutionary War soldier who lived in Halifax County, VA; Burke County, NC; Pendleton & Greenville Districts, SC; Roane County, TN; Jackson County, TN.
2) John Hood, Jr.: 1770/1780-1830+. Lived in Greenville County, SC and was married to Mary (Owensby) Hood.
3) Thomas Hood: circa 1773-1820. Born in Virginia and lived in Burke County, North Carolina; Pendleton and Greenville Districts, SC; Roane County, TN. He married Martha (Owensby) Hood.
4) William W. Hood: 1773/74-1850+. He lived in Pendleton District, SC and Franklin County, GA.
5) Robert Hood: c. 1777-1860+. He lived in Pendleton District, SC; Habersham and White Counties, GA.
6) Travis Hood: c. 1785-1860+. He lived in Pendleton District and Pickens County, SC.
7) Nipper Hood: c. 1785-1850. He lived in Greenville County, SC and Blount County, SC. He married Sarah McKinney.
8) Morgan H. Hood: 1784/1791-before 1849. He lived in Greenville County, SC; Buncombe County, NC; Van Buren County, MO; Tarrant County, TX. He married Mary McKinney.
9) Raleigh Hood: 1797-1851+. He lived in Greenville County, SC; Monroe, Jackson, Polk and Bradley Counties, TN; Benton County, AR. He married Anna McKinney.
10) Violet (Hood) Phillips: c. 1784-1870. She lived in Greenville District, SC and Henderson County, NC. She married John Phillips.
11) Alfred Hood: c. 1808-1895. He lived in Greenville County, SC and Alabama. He was married to Nancy Hardin.
12) James Lemuel Hood: 1809-1884. He lived in Henderson County, NC. He married Falba Pace.
13) Henrietta (Hood) Heatherly: c. 1816-1880+. She lived in Henderson County, NC. She married Solomon Heatherly.
14) Nancy (Hood) Gordon: c. 1823-1910+. She lived in Greenville County, SC. She married Anderson Gordon.
15) Joel O. Hood: 1803-1891. He lived in Roane and Monroe Counties, TN; Jasper County, MO and Benton County, AR. He married Nancy Haskins.
16) Norris Clark Hood: 1811-1870. He lived in Monroe and McMinn Counties, TN and Jasper County, MO. He married Malinda Bond.
17) David K. Hood: 1814-1885. He lived in Roane, Maury and Wayne Counties, TN and Jasper County, MO. He married (1) Martha Kinzer; (2) Susan Morris.

All of these Hoods and more have individual chapters dedicated to them and their families. Also a chapter on the Chapman family that John Hood the progenitor wed into with his marriage to Violet Chapman.

Additional chapters on Thomas and Morgan Hood, both born in Prince William County, Virginia and both were Revolutionary War soldiers.

The John and Richard Hood Clan is hardback, fully indexed by personal names, contains citations to sources and is about 550 pages.

If you are interested in a copy, please email me at the address below.

Clyde Hood
cbhoodiii@aol.com
We have similar connections to the Hood line... I am related
to Tunis Hood....Major Andrew Hood & wife Massa Sudduth through their son, Andrew Hood Jr and his wife Mary "Polly"
Cain and down to and through General John Bell Hood and
then through Minnie Mae Hood to Elvis. I am seeking information on the parents of Massa Sudduth. This is so important to me. Can anyone help me determine who her parents are? I love studying about the Hood Family and I am
always learning something new!

This was my great grandfather or charles b hood jr married to aroline hood of VA...and brother to Phylis hood-fredricks of pennsy. I believe my grandfather had two brothers...Dick and John Hood. Wondering if any relation. I am the 4th generation of charles hood...from roots of Lamartine and Adaline Hood...provided I spelled this right.

Seeking Hoods who have had yDNA testing

I am looking for Hoods who have had yDNA or autosomal testing. My father was adopted in 1930 in Detroit and I am trying to locate his birth family and ethnicity. My brother's yDNA results recently became available and FamilyTreeDNA has assigned us the same lineage as a Joseph Hood who originates - with no dates - in Armagh, Derry, Ireland (Wikipedia puts Armagh and Derry quite a distance from each other, so I don't know how accurate this is). We also match 36/37 markers with Orin Delbert Hood (1908 - 2009) of Massachusetts. I am currently awaiting a response from Mr. Hood's keeper of his DNA.

I have tested had ancestry's autosomal DNA testing done as well, and we all know how horrible the tools are for researching our matches. If you've had either testing done and are willing to share information with me, I'd really appreciate your help. I'd also being willing to slog through 60+ pages of matches to find you. Thanks so much.

Ironically my Patrick Hood stated on one of the census records that he had been married 3 times, but I can only find 2 marriages for him,I found him on the census as a child and a teenager, then don't find him again until I found him in Arkansas married to a J.G.Johnson,they had one son,and he was 12 when Patrick married Louisa Littreal. But Patrick was a magistrate in Blue Ball,Arkansas.I found only a marriage record for J.G.Johnson and no mention of her parents names as it was not required in Arkansas at that time.I do know Patrick was a very quite person and never spoke of his past life to anyone, but this is hard to track as all of his children are deceased,Patrick is my husband's grandfather, but he died before any of his grandchildren were born. And I have only one photo of Patrick and his 2nd wife Louisa Eliza. And there was never a death certificate filed in Oklahoma for Patrick,if this is the same Patrick he had a lot of children.

just have no idea is my Patrick Hood and your Patrick Hood were related,my Patrick Hood often went by PL Hood,he died in November 1921 and is buried in the Crossroads Cemetery outside of Calvin,Oklahoma. From Mississippi where he was born I tracked him to Arkansas, then to Oklahoma where he died, but he was married first to a J.G.Johnson,and I don't know what happened to J.G.Johnson,but Patrick remarried to Louise Eliza Elmira Littreal and they had 6 children. And they married in Arkansas, and she died in 1930 and is buried beside Patrick in Crossroads Cemetery.

Thank you for answering,my Patrick Hood was born in Mississippi in 1847,although his headstone says he was born in 1852,but the census record said he was born in 1847.He was married to a Lucinda Hewitt, she was born in Mississippi in 1818.Patrick was the son of Kendric Hood, that is as far as I have gotten yet and I am still searching, but I have ancestry now and have until September 25,2013 to use it.I think many of the Hoods are related, but it is like looking for a needle in a haystack to link them together.Let me know what you think.
Ann Hood

Hello. Looking for info on G. Anne Hood (1874), daughter of William Charles Calvin Hood and Piety Ann Allred. It is possible she married a Shaw, but when Mother did her research, she received no input from that family, I am updating her book and would like to include Anne and her family.
She was in the 1880 GA census and is sister to Mary, Sarah, John Allen (1869), Wm Charles, and Melissa Kate.
Yeah Paula! Dellman Hood's book about William Hood is wrong here. William Hood b. 1798 GA was married to Cecelia Quinn before records in St. Clair started in 1818. John Quinn's will leaves property to his daughter Ceily Hood, wife of William Hood in John Quinn's will dated March 30, 1829 St Clair, AL. Hiram Hood(their son) was born Sept 20,1819 in Ashville, St. Clair County, AL. Hiram married Mary Goodson(daughter of John A Goodson and Nancy Garrett who gave the land to build Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Bibb County, AL) 16 july 1843.
I believe the attached marriage bond is your Reuben Roach and Sarah Ball 1806 marriage Monroe County, VA/WV.
You are using Amherst County which I don't understand; I see Amherst a lot but I have no idea where this information comes from.
This Reuben Roach and Mickelberry Roach are the same family that lived in Rockingham, Orange, Augusta, Albermarle and likely adjoining counties.
It is also likely Tempy Ball who married Fielding Meadows (s/o Francis, Jr and Frances Bush) in Monroe County, VA/WV is related to Sarah Ball. The best information I could come up with Tempy was d/o Joseph and Elizabeth Philips Ball.
