I am looking for information on my great grandfather Robert Holt, born in Key West, Florida on 10 Feb 1869 and his sister, Laura Lucretia Holt-Turnbow, born 16 Dec 1866 in Tennessee. Their mother was Mary Ann Lafferty-Brock-Holt. We do not have a confirmed identity on their father.
A little background on the family: Mary Ann Lafferty was born in Tennessee in 1834. It looks like she mainly lived in McMinn County. She first married Terry Green Brock (some records have him as Perry). She had several children with him before he died in 1863. Her two youngest Brock children were born in Illinois in 1862 and 1863. That is likely where they lived when he died. She later married a man named Holt. There is marriage record for a Mary Brock and a Perry Holt (some records also have it as Terry) in 1865 in Posey, Indiana. Location and timing make sense, but I have yet to find further records on this man.
Mary Ann had only the two children mentioned above with her husband Holt. It looks like the family moved often, and I question what took them to Key West. Perhaps husband Holt was in the military?
US Census records have the Brock/Holt family in Wise County, Texas by 1880, without Mary Ann's husband Holt. That is where they settled for many years. Mary Ann is buried there under her first husband's Brock name. I have been unable to locate the Brock/Holt family in the 1870 Census. Perhaps they were moving and the Census did not record them that year?
Very little is known about our unidentified Holt ancestor, other than his last name. We don't know what happened to him following his son Robert's birth. All we know is something happened between 1869 and 1880, and he was no longer in the family by then.
My tree is public if anyone would like to review the records I already have. Any information, or leads would be much appreciated.
