Charles Evans Hollis, age 46,
324 W. 6th St., was called home by the Lord Sunday, September 28, 2008, at UPMC-Shadyside in Pittsburgh.
He was born March 21, 1962, in Erie, son of the late Roy Hollis, Sr. and Carrie Hollis. Charles graduated from Strong Vincent High school. After graduation he attended Clarion University in Clarion, Pa., and Erie Community College in Buffalo, N.Y., where he was a business major. He was an employee of the Erie Insurance Exchange for eighteen years. Eleven of those eighteen years he also worked for The Martin Luther King Center as a recreation aid. As a teenager, he grew up in Bethlehem Temple, later attended Family Worship Center, and was soon to become a member of Friendship Baptist Church. He enjoyed basketball, and played for both Strong Vincent and Clarion. He was an assistant coach for McDowell boy's basketball for several years, as well as an assistant coach for Strong Vincent until 2006. His favorite team was the Lakers. He was also an avid football fan and Charles could always be seen supporting his favorite team, the Rams. He loved spending time with his family, singing, and was musically gifted in playing the drums. He loved working with children and enjoyed going to the movies. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Tate; a sister, Bobbie Jean Tate; and a sister-In-Law, Carrie Mae Tate. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving stepmother, Hattie Hollis, Erie; eleven brothers, Sandy Tate, Erie, Bishop Willie Earl Williams (Kelli), Erie, Bennie Tate, Dallas Tex., Essie Hollis (Sharon), Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; Roy Hollis, Jr. (Christine), Erie, Kenneth Hollis, Erie, Willie Dale Hollis, Indianapolis Ind., Eddie Hollis, Erie, Coral Hollis, Erie, Bernard Johnson, Akron, Ohio, and Scott Smith, Boca Raton, Fla.; six sisters, Nealy Ruff (Rev. Charles Julious Ruff), Erie; Colonel Doris Tate-Johnson (Marvin), San Antonio, Texas, ; Lula Mickle (Ron), Erie, Dorothy Batts (Hayward), Erie, Kathryn Hollis, Erie, and Susan McCormick, Akron, Ohio,; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends, including a longtime special friend, Kim Daniszewski, and close friend, Constance McCoy. Friends may call at Law Funeral Home, 2926 Pine Ave., Friday, October 3, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 .m. Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at First Good Samaritan Church, 3209 Pennsylvania Ave., with Elder Danny Stanton officiating. Interment at Erie Cemetery.
