Hoffpauir land grant

According to a paper by Wnston DeVille titled "English land grants in west Florida: A register for the states of Alabama, Mississippi, and parts of Florida and Louisiana, 1766-1776", our Thomas Hoffpauir received an ENGLISH land grant of 200 Acres. This was surprising to me on several levels. Supposedly this grant took place some time between 1766 and 1776. If this is true, it's perhaps a clue as to where Thomas was between the time we have him marrying in Montreal in 1772 and residing in New Orleans in 1781. Since we know he was in Montreal in 1772 this gives a window of only 4 years, 1772 to 1776, for him to be in west Florida (which I'm assuming are the areas of Louisiana east of the Mississippi). Then again, this rascal gets a land grant from England and just a few years later joins Galvez in fighting against the English!

Does anyone have any more information about this?
