You are probably right that the 1836 Land sale was from the estate of John H Hoffpauir's father, Manoah Francois Hoffpauir and not John H's brother Francois. At that time, John H would have reached majority.

I guess to be absolutely sure, I need to check that Manoah Francois's land was not already conveyed in his succession dated 2 Aug 1831 (possibly #270) and to see if Francois the brother was still alive in 1840 Census.

This will have to wait till my next visit to Louisiana this June.
