Hobler is said to be a German/Czech variant of Hober. Hober (Höber) is the name given to those involved in heavy lifting; it comes from the Middle High German heben ‘to lift’; it also pertained to those from Höver near Ülzen. There is also a Jewish variant of Hober/Haber which refers to the Yiddish hober or oats. [Source: www.ancestry.com]
