Hello fellow Hobbs researchers, my name is John Hobbs and I have been following this Hobbs Board since about the year 2000, but I have never made a post before. I am descended from William Hobbs born Feb 18, 1787 in South Carolina.

I have read this Board's material quite frequently and used information gathered here as guidance in other research directions. I have hit the proverbial dead end with absolutely no other direction to go for further research. It had been stated in my family that we descended from the well known three brothers "William, Vincent and Beal".

Since I was at this "dead end" I decided to go the DNA route and attempt to either prove or disprove the connection with the Vincent Hobbs Line. I had seen Lowell Jean Hobbs involved in many discussions on this board, and gathered that his own descendancy from Vincent Hobbs was fairly solid. So, I contacted Lowell Jean and he consented to help me in this endevour. He submitted his DNA to Family Tree DNA as did I several weeks later. As soon as his results came back they were posted to the Hobbs DNA Project Website (http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/h/hobbs/). He was immediately contacted by Robert Hobbs, whom also descended from Vincent and matched his DNA.

My DNA results followed several weeks later. I was disappointed with the results in that it was clear that there was no connection between me and the Vincent Hobbs Line. At the same time I was glad to eliminate one large Hobbs group from further research in connection with my line. It is also possible that somewhere along my personal line that there was an unrecorded "happenstance" occur that I am not aware of. For that reason I call upon any males from The William Hobbs b 1787 SC line to please come forward and join the Hobbs DNA Project to help prove or disprove our ancestry.

The Hobbs DNA Project is at: http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/h/hobbs/

It has a good start with the Vincent Hobbs Line, My line, the Larkin Hobbs line will be posted within a few days, and others. Please encourage all Hobbs that you know to go to the website and consider joining in. The cost for a 37 marker test is $189.00 plus $2.00 shipping and it is quite easy to do.

If you have any questions about this feel free to contact me at jobbs@aol.com.

Thanks,

John Hobbs
