Any Hoag descendents in Mi. I just found obit for my Grgrandfather Peter Hoag who was born 1822 in Saratoga NY. He died 1906 in IL. Think his parents were Isaac Hoag and Martha Hatfield. That's still to be proved. But the obit said his sister Martha Hoag Stanton of Matteawan Mi was unable to attend funeral as she was too feeble. Anyone know where that town is in Mi? Or anyone know this Martha? M.E.

Mattawan is in Van Buren Co. in Southwestern Michigan. It's on 24th St., a few miles South of Interstate 94. It is also slightly Southeast of Paw Paw, the county seat of Van Buren Co. There are several Hoags in my family tree, but I don't have the names you mentioned. Would you like to trade info?

I have a William T. Hoag on a marriage license for Nancy Ella Smith in 1873 with no family connection. In the 1850 Census it lists a Sarah or Sally Hoag living with one Joseph Smith in Franklin, Lenewee County, Michigan.

The Hoags in Lenawee County between 1830 and 1870 are from Farmington, Ontario County, New York. They are tied into the Hoag, Pierce, Smith, and Webb families. They were Quakers. I have William (1878-?), William T. (dates are unknown) and Sally Hoag Smith.

Regarding your mention of "Orrin S. Hoag, b. 1831 in OH" --

Are you positive Orrin is the son of John? A couple different websites I've checked out (which, true, could have incorrect information - I have not looked at original documents) list Orrin S. Hoag b 1831 in Ohio, as the son of Asa Hoag and Elizabeth Norton.

see Hoag Family dot net's page for Asa & Elizabeth and children: http://www.hoagfamily.net/genealogy/dat32.htm#9

And Hogg DNA Project extensive family tree: http://hdhdata.org/roots/h2710.html

If you know for sure that Orrin was the son of John (or better yet, have some kind of document/record that says so), you should contact those two websites and tell them they have Orrin's parentage listed incorrectly, and provide them the correct info.
