My grandfather was Ho Tim who was a plantation laborer in Hawaii. We think he immigrated to Hawaii around 1894. His father was Ho Yuck, but we don't know his mother's name. He supposedly was born in Hong Kong, but oral history says that he was born in Jook Tow Yin Village, Nam Long Section, Heung Shan District, China. We know he had family, but have not been able to trace roots to find any of them.

My ancestor also came to the Hawaii from the same village, Jook Tow Yin (Zhu Tou Yuan) in Heung Shan (Zhongshan). It is the ancestral village of many of the Ho families in Hawaii. If you have additional info about your family, particularly names in Chinese characters, then maybe I can help.

Hello unfortunately we know very litte as my grandfather died when my Dad was a youngster. I've attached my grandfather's name Ho Tim. Aside from my Dad's name (he was born in Hawaii), I only have a few names. My grandmother Yok Moi Lum was his second wife and was born in Hawaii. His first wife came from China, I found her name in a Census as Lean Jok. They had two children Ah Lam and Ha Quan. My great grandfather is Ho Yuck. Supposedly Ho Chinn (Chinn Ho was a distant cousin).

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I don't know if this helps, but I have an old family tree created by Harvard Yenching Library which includes distant relative and Chinese American businessman Chinn Ho, dated 1982 and addressed to Chinn's son Dean. In this document, titled the Ho Family Genealogy, Chinn Ho is generation #28 and Dean is generation #29. It has some tidbits of information on the Ho family move to Hawaii from Zhu Tou Yuan.

The document has some other data points, although I cannot vouch for their accuracy. The Ho family moved to Zhu Tou Yuan from Fujian in 1736. Before Fujian, this part of the Ho family resided in Anhui until 892.

I do not see anybody named Ho Tim, although there was a generation named "Tian" (translation is sky or heaven) and one of these guys successfully migrated from Zhu Tou Yuan and settled in Hawaii in the 19th century. The romanizations make linking names difficult, and some approximate dates of birth or death might help.

Yes, that would help. Chinn Ho is supposed to be a distant cousin of my Dad.

If you live in Hawaii, there's a copy of the Ho family book in the Beretania branch of the LDS.

Please contact me at rfransham@comcast.net. I am researching my Ho ancestors from Juk Tao In 竹頭園. I've been to the village, ancestral shrine rebuilt in the 1980's so not original but there are 5 generations described on the wall.

I just saw your offer to help with Pat Galvan's Ho ancestors from Zhu Tou Yuan, and I wonder if you could help me as well. My ggrandfather He Tu Xin (何 土 新) emigrated to Hawaii from Zhu Tou Yuan in the 1880's. I am trying to verify his father's name which I believe is He Xue Fa (何 學 發).
