I hate to muddy up the Hnat waters - but I am interested in the Hnats related to Susan (nee Demko) and Peter Hnat (mother's maiden name Dragan) from Hrabske. Peter and Susie (my grandparents) came to Cleveland in the early 1900s and were married in Cleveland, Ohio, but Peter had two brothers (John and Michael). John returned to Hrabske. Any information on this Hnat family would be appreciated.

Hi Joan,
we're related but as yet don't know how.
I've posted what I know on Rootsweb. Type in Hnath as a surname and you'll see a lot of hnat[h]s. My understanding is that the name was originally Hnath and the variations are: Hnat and also Hnatiw. I have corresponded with a gentleman who has documented the Hnatiw as a variation.
This is so hard to try and document. As you will see on the Rootsweb, I'm missing so much information. Anyone who can assist I would appreciate it. The Ohio cannection is very important to my aunt.
Please respond.
Thanks Joy

my grandfather Michael Dragan was born in Hrabska-Sarris in 1891 As of 1996 Martha Seocekova from Hrabaska, Czechoslovakia was still living there. Unsure of any other information at this time

We have tracked the records of the Hnat/Dragan family in Hrabske through the Greek Catholic Church Records. I believe your grandfather was most likely a relative of my great grandmother, Maria Dragan. I will look at the records I have and see if I can find a connection. Thank you.
