I am looking for information on Hnat families from the village of Maly Lipnik. In particular, I am looking for information on Michael Hnat (b. ca. 1841). He married Anna Scerbak of Ujak (b. ca. 1848). Her father was Michael (or Mikulas) Scerbak. According to the church records, Michael was an orphan. They were married in Ujak on 22 Nov. 1868. They had 9 children, including twin sons. They lived in Ujak in the mid to late 1880's.
Any information would be appreciated.

I have a Micheal Hnat. But have no information on him. All I know was that he was my gt gt grandfather's (John Hnat) father. My Micheal I would guess was born about 1840. I have a record that states John visited Slovensko Slovakia, but have no idea were that is.
Anyway, this John married Elizabeth Scerba and they lived in the Hazleton PA area.

Richard,
The Michael Hnat I'm looking for would have been born about the same year (1840) as your 3x great grandfather. My Michael had 9 children including a son John, born 28 Nov. 1885 (John had a twin brother Stephen). When was your John Hnat born?
Regards.

Rich,
Thanks for your response. We're not talking about the same John. If you are ever able to pin down the village where your Hnat's come from, please let me know.

I am fairly certian that they came from eastern Slovakia. From the city of Hummenne. I know John visited there once or twice at least. It is in Zemplen County and is 50 or so miles from Maly Lipnik. I have a paper from my grmother that says he visted Slovensko (Hummene)- Oct post, Spar which I have no idea what it means.?? also says Proka 202,003 (can't translate). My John is burried at the Holy Trinity Cemetary in Hazleton PA.

Dear Rick and Mary Ellen,
Thanks for your response. Here is some additional information that I have on this Michael Hnat/Anna Scerbak family. Their known children were: Anna (1870-?), Maria (ca. 1874-?)- she married a Paul Szadloch, Michael (1876-1878), John #1 (1883-1884), John #2 and Stephen, twins (1885-?), Joseph (1889-1890), Peter (1892-?), and Nicholas (1898-?). Stephen settled in New Jersey, and belonged to St. Michael's GC Church and later to St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, both in Passaic, NJ. John #2 may have settled in Massachusetts. Peter's family settled in northern NJ. Mother Anna Scerbak Hnat may be a decendent of my Mikulas Scerbak/Helena Murczko family of nearby Ujak.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Ray Romanowski
