Dear Ray,
You and I are related. My Grandfather Steven (Stephen) Hnat had an identical twin brother, John. Steven and John were born in 1885 and came to the U.S. around 1900. Steven and John had a Scerbak connection. I believe Scerbak was their stepfather. Their half siblings took the name Scerbak (some of them, that is.) The stepfather Scerbak was, supposedly, a very cruel man. Because of this some of the children refused to take the Scerbak name. It is said that Michael, one of Steven's brother went back to Slovakia to find his Scerbak father and settle the score with him. Michael was never heard from again. Anna Kopas is a family member also. I can tell you more. Please email me. Lee Zima

Hello,
I noticed the Foulds surname and NJIT e-mail address. I'm a Foulds (from New Jersey) and have a great deal of Foulds genealogy information if you're interested. It goes back to ~1756 in Scotland.

Would you have any information on your ELIZABETH SCERBA?? My Grandmother MARIA SCERBA LUCAKSCO was born someplace is Austria, married my Grandfather Demeter Stim, moved to Ol'ka, Slovakia and then immigrated to Johnstown, PA.. She had a sister HELENA SCERBA LUCAKSCO who married a NICHOLAS BALLOW and also immigrated to Johnstown. Any help locating the town in Austria of their birth would be a blessing. Thank you for your interest.

I was just crusing online and checked out my surname. Please note my father, George Joseph Hnot, must be your uncle. He lives in Florida (we are not in touch), his father was John and married to Marie Antoinette Spina (they call her Dana). His brother is Paul and he has other siblings. The surname is Hnot. They did come from Slovakia and I have a picture of my father's dad. Please contact me and we can piece together some of this information. I believe I have a color picture of my dad's brother, who my mom (deceased now, so I can't clarify), said was his brother Paul and his wife. Please contact me. I know this is an old message andhopefully you will receive it.

Dad had other brothers: Georgie,John(wife-Millie) who spelled his name Hnat and sisters Mary, Helen (Frank Rusnak),and Anna( Joseph Hudak).I was told, Dad was born on a ship when his parents were coming back from a trip to budapest. My G Grandmother was Anna Hnat Hudak from Hazelton PA. She had a Brother Paul, George John and Joe. Sisters include Mary Betty, Helen. So yes sounds like a match. :) Anna's dad was John Hnat and mom was Elizabeth Scerba. They were married in St Joesephs Church. Anna moved from PA to NJ at some point to East Orange and later to Andover NJ.
