HLAVAY – Francis E. “Frank,” 88, Johnstown, died July 19, 1995, at home. Born March 24, 1907, in Johnstown, son of Frank and Mary A. (Barancok) Hlavay. Preceded in death by parents, one brother and numerous sisters. Survived by wife, former Antoinette “Betty” Sterle, Johnstown; daughter, Margaret, married to James Jaworski, Georgia; son, Frank R., and daughter, Carole, married to John Thompson, both of Johnstown; grandchildren, Cynthia and Jennifer, and John E. and Ryan; and great-grandsons, Wesley, Jacob, Benjamin, and Gregory. Brother of Elizabeth Mullar, Maryland and Rosemary Swarney, Johnstown. Retired employee with 48 years’ service with Johnstown Works of U.S. Steel. Lifetime member of Belmont Fire Co.; Cambria County Firemen’s Association; Senior Citizens of Johnstown and the East Hills. Franks was an avid Air Raid Warden during World War II. Member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Monsignor Joseph Kiniry. Entombment, Grandview Mausoleum. Private family visitations.
