Angeline “Gail” Hlasta, 94, formerly of Liberty Township, Ohio passed away Sunday, April 29, 2012, at the Humility House in Austintown, Ohio.

She was born Jan. 1, 1918, in McIntyre, Pa., and was raised in the Pittsburgh area by her parents, Josef and Louisa Zora Slack.

She worked many jobs as a young woman, but during World War II, she worked in the government war effort in Baltimore and then returned to the Pittsburgh area. At that time, she enjoyed traveling with her friends.

In 1950, she met Chester Hlasta Sr., her husband of 55 years, and together raised three children.

Gail and Chester lived at 349 Ventura Drive in Liberty Township since 1961. Gail and Chester were members of St. Ann’s Catholic Church and St. Casmirs, both in Youngstown.

Gail is remembered for trips to Washington, D.C. with her children and walking her young children to the Northside pool in the summer. As Gail got older, she enjoyed trips to visit her children and grandchildren in Virginia and Philadelphia, and loved taking care of them.

She also enjoyed baking, knitting, sewing and shopping!

Gail is survived by her daughter, Beverly Perri; son Dennis Hlasta; daughters-in-law Mary Hlasta and Linda Hlasta; sisters Louise and Millie; eight grandchildren, Kristi, Kim, Meredith, Mark, Missy, Erin, Maggie and Erik; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Hlasta Sr., whom she married May 6, 1950, and who passed away Dec. 29, 2005; son Chester P. Hlasta Jr.; son-in-law Ken Perri; one brother; and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at noon at the Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard, Ohio.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

Interment will be at Belmont Park Cemetery.

The family requests that material contributions be made to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Youngstown, OH 44512.
