Sorry for taking so long to reply but when I
get into the family history it seems to swallow my time especially on the pc so I tend to leave it for a while. My grandmother was actually born in Mellen Wisconsin. Her dad John Johnsen Hjelle was born and raised in Stryn,Sogne og Fjorde. The Hjelle Name actually refers to the farm their family lived. It would be another way of identifying them. There would be a lot of Johns who John's sons. It would however indicate that some where along the way they might have coworkers or even in some cases relatives I'm sure. I don't know what your family experience is but I'm getting the picture of a family who were not great communicators. I'm sort of curious to find out if this a Norwegian trait or not.

That was a funny comment about norweigns, mmm, I wonder too, but I don't think it is limited to us. It's hard to find time to devote to this, but it will be interesting, will let you know what we find.

John L Hjelle, Wilmar, MN

Hello!

I'm about 10 years too late for this thread, but thought I'd post anyway.

I descend from John L Hjelle (sometimes written as Jelle), who settled with his wife, Ingrid, in Artcander, right outside of Wilmar, MN around 1874ish.

John was born in 1830, so I'm wondering if he is an uncle or dad of Hans? I can't find him in relation to Hans and only find the following children: Karin, Anne, Elisabeth and Ole.

Their daughter, Anne is my 3rd great grandma married Lars Goeson.
