Considering your post is nearly 13 years old, I'd love to know if you get this message.

I've seen the details recently (although I don't think it's my part of the family), but everything you've mentioned, including pictures of the grave and cemetery of a LOT of that side of the family is now available.

Really hope you get to see this!!

Perhaps he was a 20 year old unmarried "student scholastic" in Yorkshire in April 1911, living with his family at 54 Sheffield Road Wadsley Bridge Sheffield, Ecclesfield, Yorkshire, and if he was, he was born in Wadsley Bridge in late 1890 or early 1891, and if he was born in Wadsley Bridge then his birth was registered in Wortley Registration District, and if his birth was registered in that district between 1890 and 1892 then there are only two possible birth registrations for him, and they're both in the first quarter of 1891 :):) but presumably only one of them was for a mother with the forename Frances and a father with the forenames of John William who may have been a butcher in 1891.

His marriage certificate will also show his father's name and occupation.

He also had a 14 year old sister called Jessie.

Circumstantial, but it sounds like it might be him. http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

I know one thing for sure though, he wouldn't have liked your lack of the use of capital letters and punctuation. :):)

William HIRST b1832-1838

There are two possibilities here. On his 1867 marriage certificate (Newbridge Victoria, Australia) William says his father's name was John, an architect, and that he himself was born at Wardel, Northumberland. He said he was 29 years old.
His family believe he was born at Leeds, (1902 death certifcate). At his death he was thought to be 70 years of age.
There are no references to him in the 1841 UK Census, nor 1851 nor 1861.
The place name Wardal or Wardel is not found in Northumberland.
He was a miner in the Victorian gold fields and ended with eight children.

William Henry Hirst (sometimes seen as Hearst) was my great-grandfather (b. about Jan 1865 in Philadelphia). It is listed on a census from 1900 that his parents were born in Ireland, but I have no further information about them. I am looking for any information pertaining to them. William married Mary Josephine Schroeder and they had 5 children: Frank, William, Mary, James (my grandfather) and Beatrice. I would be grateful for any information anyone may have. Thanks.

Hi again

In case you're also researching John Castle, this could be him: John Castle b. 8th Jan 1847, parents Frederick and Harriet Castle living at Sinking Wood (which is on the A616 New Mill Road). John was babtised 14th Nov 1847 at Christchurch, New Mill.

There are a few John Castles but this one seems likely as he and Lucy named two of their children Frederick and Harriet.
Good luck with your research!

Hi
Ancestry's West Yorkshire Parish records are a really good resource if you are researching early records in West Yokshire. There is a Christening record for Lucy Hirst at the Chapelry of Christchurch, New Mill, June 1852. Her mother's name is given as Ann Hirst, spinster, living at Holmfirth which could mean the village or the Parish of Holmfirth. Unfortunately Lucy's father's name is not given.

I'm also researching Hirsts which is not the easiest task in this area as there are thousands of them!

George Hirst was my GG grandfather...born in England, in 1822.
He married Tamer Colclough of England. After immigrating to USA, they settled in Union Co.,Kentucky. I'm not able to find any record of him after the 1870 US census. Tamera Colclough Hirst was found on 1880 census living with her daughter,Margaret Eisenbart, in Washington Twp.,Columbiana Co.,Ohio, and is listed as a widow on the 1880 census. I would like to know when, where & how George died. George and Tamer's children were: Mary E (Hirst)Yingst, Margaret (Hirst) Eisenbart, George and John. Tamer died in Toronto,OH in 1911. Any information you could give me about George Hirst would be very much appreciated.

Your Aunt Lily (I'm assuming she only had one "L" in her name as that is how her son wrote her name for me and is also the spelling of the flower) is my great-grandmother. The boys you refer to are John (Jack) Coughlin, who was my grandfather, and Paul (Pete) Coughlin, my great-uncle. According to my great-uncle Pete, Lily and her husband also had their first-born, a daughter, die shortly after birth. Uncle Pete's son, my first cousin once-removed, confirmed that story, at least saying that it was a story he'd always been familiar with as well. Uncle Pete is still alive at age 93, but my grandfather passed away about 12 or 13 years ago.

I have been researching "HIRST" family for some time.
One of my brick walls was my great grandfather's sister Ellen Hirst. My mother said she had met her and "Her name was always Ellen Hirst, I guess she never married. She came from England 3 or 4 times alone" Later someone saw my posting and told me she had married, had 4 children, married a man from Huddersfield, Yorkshire, and his name was also Hirst. His family was educated in education and were mostly teachers. Ellen's family was involved in the Woollen Textile Industry. So maybe your lady with children was married to a person with the same surname?
First names of Joseph & James (Hirst) are many. I have 5 Josephs and 3 James. Information I have on them came from family records & bibles. Unfortunately I have not found people with those names that have anything close to the dates I do have, or when the dates are appropriate, the children's names, wife's name or residence are not correct. Dobe very careful with "same name" individuals, as I have had someone take my information for a Richard Hirst (his parents & siblings) and add his information to Richard. In my Family James Hirst had 8 children in England, wife died, he remarried and moved to Pennsylvania, USA. Brought 3 children to US and had 4 children with 2nd wife. Oldest children of first marriage stayed in England. This person says the whole family (same names and dates) lived their entire lives in England, and Richard had alot of sons. My Richard Hirst married in England after attending school in the US. Returned to Philadelphia, had 4 daughters only 1 lived beyond infancy. If you could give more information like dates or Spouse names it might be helpful. My Hirst's are from the Batley Carr, Dewsbury, West Riding area of Yorkshire, but they too spread out in the area. I would be glad to share information that I do have, and other names that may possibly help you.
Hello Ira,
How wonderful that we may be connected, and especially as the original post was 8 years ago. Perhaps you could give me some more names and dates so that I can confirm with my records. Specifically John Hirst was my gg grandfather, and one of his sons Edwin Clement Hirst was my grandfather. He eventually as of the late 1870's was in Newfoundland Canada where my grandmother Lavinia Hirst was born.

Lynn

How would I obtain copies of the pictures and/ or other information you have on them? I was just a little kid when Bessie, Harold and your mom, Marion and her sister, Muriel used to come to my Dad's farm to visit (Avonmore, Ont.).
Your Grandmother, Bessie, is a first cousin to my father, Ellis Bomhower.

Your Great Grandmother, Sophrona Bomhower, was my Grandfather's sister. His name was Jacob Bomhower, born in 1853.

I can provide you with much information regarding your ancestors on Bessie's branch of the family, which goes back to the early 1700's.

Let me know if you are interested in looking through this family tree which I have created.

Sincerely,
Bernice (Bomhower) Benson

Hi, I'm trying to find this Lucy Hirst's parents. Here is what I know. This Lucy was born 1852, West Yorkshire. Unsure of exact date and location of birth. Could be Feb 28th in Scholes, but I can't verify that.

This particular Lucy Hirst married a John Castle (b.1847) on Dec 25th 1869 at the Lydgate Presbyterian Chapel Wooldale, Huddersfield.

John Castle & Lucy had 7 children;

Hugh (1870)
Frederick William (1872)
Sam (1874)
Annie (1877)
Luther (1879)
Harriet (1880) [Harriet is my maternal great grandmother]
Herman (1887)

Lucy Castle (Hirst) is listed in many Census's (1871, 81, 91...), but I can't find any trace or mention of her parents. She is listed on the marriage certificate with her spouse John, but with no father mentioned or signature at all under father's name/surname.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, thank you for your help. You mentioned you were researching Hirsts. Well, you may be of further help as I have another Hirst connection in my family tree. It turns out that Harriet Castle, John's & Lucy's daughter, married a Sam Shaw Brook (my great grandfather). Well, Sam's mother, Alice Shaw, married a 2nd time later in life a man named Hiram Hirst (b.1849 - 1920). It is also interesting to note that Hiram was also a widower when he married Alice, and had a daughter from that previous marriage, named Edith Annie Hirst.
Now, when I first learned of this, I suspected that Hiram Hirst may have been somehow related to Lucy... however, as yet I have been unable to find that possible connection. It seems a bit too coincidental to me that Sam's mother would marry a Hirst later in life, and Sam's wife's mother was also a Hirst. Perhaps I could take a look at what research you have done in your Hirst family tree to see if maybe there is a connection? I'm eager to hear what you think.
Thanks again.

Hi Brenda,
I am also related to Sydney Hirst through his son Thomas Hirst who married Sophia Schmidt from England on 18 October 1880 in Feilding, (I have a copy of family photo somewhere). Clara Hirst my grandmother married Emil Ericksen an immigrant from Norway in early 1900's in Norsewood.
Any feed back on the Hirsts would be great, but most of my time is spent on the Norwegian line at present
Thanks Cliff
