Hiott is a surname which may have originated from English/Norman Hyatt/Hiett/Hyett/Hyott/Hiatt/etc. However, the name
comes up occasionally in 1600's & 1700's England (David Hiott,1679, John H. in Hurst,Berkshire; William,Edward
1835,Gloucester; Caroline Hiott,1845, John H.,,Lilington, Warwick;John Hiott 1718, Cornhill near River Tweed)with the same
spelling HIOTT as my American lineage, which goes back to the 1750's in South Carolina. and continues. Recent information
suggests that Hiotts may have been Germanic Alsacian religious dissenters, who were forced to emigrate, perhaps via Holland,
to England in the 1500's? I am most hopeful of finding out more. Also needed are ships passenger listings for Hiott members to
America and elsewhere. David Weston Hiott, M.D., Ph.D. 6/1/99
