Hi Keith,
My great grandfather was William Wilford and grandfather was Walter. I'd like to correct some inaccuracies in our bit of the "book". My mother was Ann Hinkley and she had 4 children not 3 as shown in the book. My father's name was George Neville Davis not Ian.

A wonderful job has been done to collect so much history. I congratulate you.

I believe we are 2nd cousins. My grandfather, Charles Edwin Hart 2nd, b. 1884, d.1972, is Etheline Hart Hinkley's younger brother. Their parents, our great grandparents, were Jennie Wainwright, from Manchester, NJ and Charles Edwin Hart, b. 1842 who fought in the Civil War after graduating from Yale and lived in the Hart block of New Britain, CT. They had 4 children, Lillian Wainwright b. 1870, Harrie Emile, b. 1872, Etheline, b 1876, and my grandfather.
I grew up in southern CA, but now live in Wellesley Ma. My 2 younger children reside in Northern Ca.

Thank you Kim, I didnt know much of this family other than my grandfather Milford. I am very pleased to hear of an alternate spelling on the Rorer side, there are several different spellings and I havent heard of it being spelled this way, might help out! I would ppreciate any info you could pass on, thank you again!

This looks like my family too and I know very little, but I will share what I do know.

Blanche Harriet Hinkley (my mother) had three girls Beth, Jamie, Kim and one son Andrew.
She was born 10/30/1938 in Gaylord, Mi.
You have listed all her brothers and my aunt Mabel, but forgot my aunt Mary. I'm not sure what year she was born or what year she died. Her married name was Mary Maggley.

Also, we spelled my grandma's maidien name Rohr.

I believe my uncle Milford was the last one to pass.

Wish I knew more...

I inherited a large genealogy of a dear friend and am trying to find a home for all she had. One of these pieces is a type written folder of DIARIES 1862-1874 M.E. HINKLEY, looks like it is Cherokee and Buena Vista Counties. 205 pages of what happened during this time. His M.E. stands for Myron. The Hinkleys from Dutchess/Putnam county moved to NE PA near Binghamton area.

My great great grandfather LeRoy Hinkley settled in Lenox PA. Brothers also settled in the area and, as they were farmers, they all had a lot of kids. The spellings of the Hinkleys there have changed with the years. All related but you may want to try Hinckley or Hinklie as both are common there and may be the one you are looking for.

All that being said, I am still looking for any lead on Henry M. Hinkley who married Mary Van Valin. Does this couple show up in the Family History you mention?

James is pictured in Wings Aloft, yearbook of the 43-E class of flight cadets training at Lubbock Army Flying School in Lubbock, Texas. He is a flight cadet. I'm not kin but thought this might help someone researching the family.

Yes my mother told me that she was told not to play with the Hinkles, but some how the cenus got it all wrong, I am from the Hinkley Clan, Walter Hinkley was the father of 24 kids he was in the Radford news paper for being father of the year, with that many kids they should have given him a award, he was my great grandfather. my e-mail is sjgoins@hughes.net

I'm attempting to help an elderly friend solve what he calls "a family mystery". Charles Hinkley, from Rome, NY was in some trouble. Supposedly assaulted and killed a trooper (or troopers) by throwing him (them) off a bridge while crossing into Pennsylvania in the early 1900's. Changed his name to Charles Barnes to avoid the law. Sound familiar to anyone?

DNA Day is a holiday celebrated on April 25. It commemorates the day in 1953 when James Watson, Francis Crick, Maurice Wilkins, Rosalind Franklin and colleagues published papers in the journal Nature on the structure of DNA.

DNA testing companies will sometimes offer sales at this time of year.

Y-DNA37 (new and add-on)…. $119 (was $149)
Y-DNA67 (new and add-on)…. $199 (was $238)

These tests are for males and test the Y chromosome, thus testing the surname lines.
37 markers would tell which lineage you would match. 67 would add even more verification.
If you do not match Hinkley/Hinckley, then your results may match someone in the largest Y-DNA database.
I’ve seen these sales come and go and this is a great deal.
They are promoting mtDNA but that is the maternal line only and would not help your Hinkley line.

I just know his name and by the time the rest of my family found me he had already passed away. My oldest brother David and Terry were left with him after our mother died and David won't talk about him to much. When he passed away David was living in Texas and his wife's mother who lives here in Idaho took care of all the funeral arrangements. Are you from his first marriage? I know there was other children he had a son named Ray who passed away a couple of years ago. Other than that I don't know much else about him or his life after my mother passed.

My maternal grandparents were Oakley Hinkley and Maggie (Morrison) Hinkley. They were from Alberta and were married in 1910. Three of their children -- Arnold, Lorene, and Doris -- were born in Canada. Their 4th child was Donna, who was my mother. She was born in 1925 after her family had moved to Oregon. Anyone have any connections?
