Dear Andrew,
Years ago I went looking for my grandmother's descendents, and Iwas stopped, because she did not leave her mother and father's name on her grave.
As far as I know, my grandmother escaped the pogroms in the early 1900s from a small farm or stetl in Ukraine near Kiev. She was Esther Himelfarb (Gimelfarb? Himmelfarb?). I have been unable to find her listed on Ellis Island shipping records. She said she came at 6, but we have a picture of her mother, her and her two sisters when they first stopped off at England, and she must be at least 15 there.
We knew so little about her.
