Of a small branch thence by a quarter Line said branch to the river of the Six Runs thence down said line to the first station. Containing by estimation 125 acres to the same more or less. Later in 1772, Bk 3, p 388, Benjamin Lanier of the Province of Georgey, St. Matthews Parish, to Abraham Baget, 300 acres on the East side of Six Runs in great Marsh of Cowhiffle .
Wit.: John Lanier, John Matthis, Frederick Williams. Significant in that Frederick & Holiman Hilburn were in Burke County, GA in 1788; Lanier was in neighboring county.

East 52 chains to a cypress by the Six Runs thence along the meander, of at to another oak, thence to a red oak thence to a pine and thence to a oak, the first station.

This document consistently says Hamilton, but refers to a grant he allegedly sold to James Cook in 1769. All previous documents refer to him as “Hamblin”.

1784 Hilburn, Hamilton- Military Grant.
This grant to Hamilton Hilburn for 100 acres of land is in the same form of the aforesaid registered grant in Book Page 162 and 163 all to the difference of the person it it’s the number of acres and various courses viz. west side of the Six Runs on the head drains of Rowan Swamp beginning at a stake by a pond, John Dollars corner thence as his line So. 50 Et. 112 poles…to a pine thence along Richard Stevens line north…Hardy Stevens corner thence along his line north 75 west 116 poles…. This grant is dated the 10th day of November 1784. Witnesss: Alex Martin, J. Glasgow, secy. Registered in Book letter A page 162-63 by me this 2nd day of April 1786. Tho. Clinton, Reg.
1784. Sampson Co. Court Minutes. Ordered That Hamblin Hilborn, Stephen Brown, King Vann, Stephen Vann, James Brewer, et. al clear the Six Runs River from Smith's Bluff to the mouth Of Stewart's Creek and that Joshua Chesnutt, Jr. Be Overseer.

“This indenture made the 17th day of December in the year of our lord 1786. ….John Jones of the State of North Carolina and County of Sampson, Planter of the one part and Patience Hilbun of the other part. Witnesseth that the said John Jones for and in consideration of the sum of 35 pounds paid to him in hand paid by it said Patience Hilbern Before the ensealing and delivery thereof the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledged and for every part and parcel thereof do fully argent? And discharge the said Patience Hilburn have bargained and sold and by there presents do fully and truly bargain and sell align convey and confirm unto the said Patience Hilburn her heirs, and assigns forever all the said John Jones right title and interest in and 100 acres of land situate lying and being in the county of Sampson and on the west side of Little Cohary including his improvements beginning at a dogwood in the marsh of Odoms Branch in Little Cohary thence west up Odoms Branch 127 poles in said branch thence North 140 poles to a pine in Ruffins branch thence East down said branch 110 poles to a gum in little Cohary thence down Cohary to the beginning to have and to hold the said bargained ….with all the appurtenances and privileges whereof belonging to the said Patience Hilburn his heirs executor administrators or assigns then only proper use benefit and behalf and the said John Jones for himself his heirs executors administrators or assigns this before the ensealing & delivery hereof he is the true sale & lawful owner of the above bargained permitted in manner as above mentioned lawfully peaceably & quietly? possess the same in his own proper right & good benefit? and absolute estate of inheritance in…simple and hath in himself good right and lawful authority to grant sell bargain convey and confirm the said bargained permitted in manner as above said and the said Patience Hilburn her heirs executors administrators or assigns shall and may from time to time and at all times forever hereafter by force and virtue of these presents lawfully and peaceably have hold …
