I am researching the Higbee and Carpenter Lines. I have Vera's first husband as Charles Maurice Seerey. I have a family bible that lists mostly her mother's line. I would really like a break through on the Higbee line or the second husband's line Carl Weatherbee Carpenter. I know that Vera was born in Lompoc and that her father Isaac Newton Higbee worked with the Union Pacific Railroad. He died in 1935 in Santa Maria. There is/was a burial plot in the Lompoc Cemetery. I haven't been able to get out there and find the markers and I've heard there have been some natural disasters that may have destroyed parts of the cemetery so I'm not sure if its still there. I'm a descendant of Carl Weatherbee Carpenter and Vera but I do know a few names from the Seerey line from the Family Bible and Census Records. Which line are you concentrating on?

Seems that we are researching the same people! I don't have much info on the family tree. I know that Vera Marie Higbee was married to Harry Joseph Seerey and then to Carl Carpenter. Which side of the family are you trying to research? Maybe we can help each other out?

Looking for information about F.M. Higbee believed born in 1819 at Tate, Clermont, Ohio. Father Elias, mother Sarah. The 1850 Census shows him living with his brother Andrew Jackson Higbee in Hancock County, Illinois. Several family trees list his date of death as 1856 in New York.
I'm looking for any information concerning his whereabouts from 1844 forward. Especially any source material concerning his death in New York or elsewhere. Thanks M. Higbee

Just an update since I wrote this in '05. I'm now an active amateur genealogist and spend hours researching my tree, but mostly on the PIKE surname side. How things change.

And for other HIGBEEs...In Emerson's 1909 book, he asserts this branch goes back to William Prince of Orange circa 1553.

No, I haven't tried to verify that claim but it's interesting!
Stu Pike

http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/13239399/family/pedigree?fpid...

http://www.math.mun.ca/~dapike/family_history/pike/DNA/

I'm doing genealogy research for my fiance, and his mother's maiden name is Higbee. Her family is from Mercer County Pa. Her grandfather immigrated to the USA from Ireland in the late 1800's/early 1900's. The spelling of Higbee was changed at Ellis Island, NY, but the original spelling has been lost over the last three generations. Any information on this line of Higbee's would be wonderful. Thank you.

My grandmother was Lillian Higbee born in New Canton, Illinois 1905-1976, Father: Harry and Mother: Mae Shipman, who died when my grandmother was a young child of cancer. She had 2 brothers, Harry and Chauncey. Harry died in 1983 in Chicago, Illinois and Chauncey died after coming back from the war. My mother Dorothy Mae, has alot of information regarding the Higbees, she was an only child. She is now 84. I may be going to see her this summer and I can find out more information then. My mother named me Julia (Mae) after Julia Higbee and I actually have a ring that did belong to Julia Higbee which my grandmother gave me when I was 13 before she died. I know she had alot of books, pictures, furniture, jewelry and political medals from what she always called the Higbee Mansion from when Harry and Chauncey Lawson were judges in Pittsfield, Ill. I will see what information I can get, my mom does not have her memory now, though she has alot of documentation.

Richard Higbee born in IL

Hi everyone,

I am looking to see if anyone can offer any information or help with my great grandfather. His name was Richard Higbee and I am showing he was born in IL roughly about 1906. It appears his middle initial is a L. (This is the only info I have from my grandmothers birth certificate). At any rate, rumor in the family is that he was sent to prison and died there shortly after my grandmother was born in 1928. I can't find any records on this man so if anyone has any suggestions or a missing relative link for a Richard, I would greatly appreciate any thoughts. Thanks.
On the LDS website archives section there are a few journal entries but I found something interesting on the Southern Utah University website. They have a secion donated by a man with the last name of Haight - Haight and Higbee have deep church history roots. Anyway, I looked it up and they have some journal entries, a newspaper article and even a few pictures! My Great Great Grandfather's picture was on the site! (Issac W.

I visited Higbee, MO in 1993 to try and trace my family roots. I always thought that perhaps my lineage would have been through Higbee since that is my surname and I do know that my grand parents are from Missouri, but found that the town was named by the Kansas City and Northern Railroad after a conductor who was never a resident there. He was just a good fellow that they used his name for the town.

I spent 3 days there talking with everyone from the mayor to the local ministers and even visited several old folks in nursing homes to hear stories and nobody knew of any Higbee that actually lived there. There are Higbee's listed as residing in Randolph county in several census records but none founded the town. If you go to the link below you'll find an article mentioning the founding of the town. Also, the town has a centennial history that they printed, which you can get by writing the town clerk. I got one for just the cost of copying.

Link is
http://freepages.history.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~towlescanote...

I am researching the Higbee and Saltz families of Meadow Grove (and local townships) for the parents and family of Harold Higbee. Harold Higbee was born circa 1899 in Meadow Grove Madison Co. In subsequent childhood years he was living with his grandparents. His grandmother was Jeanette Saltz (nee Mitchell). She died in 1921 in Meadow Grove. At the time of her death, Harold Higbee was a student at the Milwaukee School of Engineering in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Any information on these families would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom Cuthbert

Hi Gary,
Your great grandfather had three children that I know of with a Clara. There names are: Otto, Ardene and Clarene. Otto lives in Mackey, Idaho (he's the current Mayor) Ardean I think stills lives in Downey - he used to have a mobile butchering buisness - but I believe he has retired. Last I knew about Clarene was that she was living in Soda Springs - I can't remember her husbands last name. Hope this helps.
Tammy

My father, Thomas William Higbe, was an only child and served in the Army. I believe my grandfather was retired from the Air Force. I do not remember much about the extended family, but would love to know more- Higbe is not the most common name!!

The Higbee's that relate to the town in Randolph Co, MO are of the family headed by Joseph Higbee, said to have been a drummer boy in the Revolution, etc., and who supposedly died at his farm a mile west of the future townsite ca l839. I've researched both the town and family for years and feel that the Higbee's who migrated to Clark Co were kin of those who came to Randolph, and that some of Joseph's descendants, specifically the daughter who married J. D. Bourn, moved to Clark after Joseph's death. He had two other daughters, one marrying Christian Collins, and they still have descendants in and about the town. Randolph became a county in l829 and was originally part of Howard to the south. I believe I saw somewhere where an Anderson Higbee lived in Howard, and I believe Joseph's wife's maiden name was Anderson.

I am researching William Conover, his wife Catherine Warth , her brother Marcus Warth, owner of a drayage, "Union Transfer" , Fredrick Wends, and the other Warths of Cleremont Co., Ohio. William and Catherine were living in Cincinnati from 1840-1856. The others I am unable to trace except where Fredrick Wends and William Conover purchase a vault at Wesleyan Cemetery for William's little children in about 1843. Are any of these your line?
Also , if you still live in the Ohio area ,I would to invite you to a Conover Gathering at the Red Brick Tavern near London , Ohio. Some of us are Double cousins, Conover / Gaskill of Warren Co., Ohio.
Marie Gaskill Reedy
I’m a descendant of James Fenton Higbee 1818, thru his daughter Anttoninette Higbee 1844, who married William Pike in 1861. I just found the Hess-Higbee Genealogy, Emerson Babcock 1909 book that my grandmother (Genevieve Pike) gave me. I have zero interest in genealogy. Zero. But someone may be updating the Hess-Higbee family tree after the book was published and I have some fairly good records of the Pike lineage.

I'll be glad to share what I have....

Stu Pike
Alamo, CA
cocostu @spamex.com
