This is interesting. There must be two, probably related Hickman families in the area, with people with similar names born in the same area.

The information I have is that my Hickman's were landowners and and my Michael Hickman died as a young man (in his 30's) leaving 4 daughters who all moved to New Zealand and his wife Margaret Shaughessy remarried a Murphy shortly after and had 3 children around the Kilkishen area.

I know I have Michael, John and Patrick Hickman to Patrick Hickman and Catherine Gleason, although I have been thinking there may be a couple of issues. I am not sure if we knew the parents of Michael or that a family member in the 1980's doing research in Ireland got the wrong parents as there is a clash with my Michael and a Michael who went to the USA to these parents (different Michael and dates but same parents). Someone may have the wrong parents and have attached them to Patrick and Catherine.

I am pretty certain my Hickmans stayed in Ireland and the records show they lived in the area we think they did after the 1850's when the other lot moved to the USA. We do have some family stories which all seem to work with the information and records. My G Grandmother and 2 sisters left in 1879 and another sister left a few years later.

Anyway they did seem to live in Snatha and its good to know this place exists!!
