Alice "Lucille" Heyd Derflinger
LANCASTER: Alice "Lucille" Heyd Derflinger, 92, of Lancaster, Ohio, passed away Thursday, November 28, 2013 at her residence.
Lucille was born in Fairfield County, Ohio December 26, 1920 to the late George R and Meda Blosser Heyd.
She graduated from Rushcreek Memorial High School in 1938.
This year she was honored at the alumni banquet as the oldest attending graduate of 75 years.
She and her late husband Harry J. Derflinger were married 70 years. Together they raised seven children.
She was active at St. Paul Lutheran Church in the North Berne community and for many years the band and athletic booster organizations at Berne Union and the ARC organization supporting the Mental Retarded program and school in Fairfield County, OH.
She and her husband provided the land for Camp Shining Sun on Schwilk Road, Lancaster, Ohio.
Lucille is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and David Hoffman, Martha and Don Cyrus, Carol and Bruce Jones, Becky and Michael Dicken; sons and daughter-in-law, James and Sharon Derflinger and Timothy; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grand children; sisters, Marcella Heyd Hanson and Marjorie Heyd McCandlish; sister-in-law, Gladys Humphreys; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Raymond; her parents; brother, Dwight Heyd; grandson-in-law, David Thrush; sisters-in-law, Marie Miller, Lillian Derflinger, Loraine Dunlap, Lucille Hintz, Mable Johnston, Marilyn McIntosh; and brothers-in-law, Howard and Harold Derflinger.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1965 Lutheran Church Rd. SE, Lancaster, Ohio.
Family and friends may visit with the family beginning at 9:30 a.m.
