I didn't realize I was on my mother's account (CTweed56) when I posted the query about Michael Hexamer but this is my usual account.
Michael is my g-g-g-grandfather through, his son, William James Hexamer (1864-1941); his son, Vearl Patrick Hexamer (1905-1959); his son, Vearl Patrick Hexamer Jr. (b. 1931); and then his daughter Cheryl Kim (Hexamer) Tweed(b. 1956).
I have been starting to look at immigration and ship records for Hexamer's trying to find Michael's father but without a first name or birthdate it is kind of pointless. Do you have any sources before the Civil War listings? Those are the earliest I can find.
As of right now, I am starting to wonder if he went by a different name (Michael is his middle name maybe?) or perhaps Hexamer has been grossly misspelled in earlier records. Just speculations on my part but who knows.
I live right outside of Anderson, where Michael is buried, and am planning on visiting the gravesite soon. Let me know if you are interested in pictures or anything.
