Dear Becky,
I know of a Simon Hewitt being linked to my family in Limerick City, Ireland. My great great great aunt married a Hewitt. I am sure that this Hewitt had a brother or father named Simon. John Hewitt was a witness at my great grandfather's marriage in 1903. He was a cousin of my great great grandmother. He lived on 7 White's Lane, off Nelson St (now Parnell St). I am sure I've got a military record for him for his service in the Royal Garrison Artillery. If I'm not mistaken it says that his father's name is William and a Simon is mentioned on the form. I can't find it at the moment. Have you checked the Port Entry records in the States for immigrants from Ireland arriving in the early part of the last century? You may find a Simon mentioed there. Simon was not a common name in Limerick at the time. I hope this helps. Also, the spelling of the name sometimes appears at Huit on official documents.
