Wow! 250 Hetricks?! I am descended from Joseph J. F. Hetrick (or J. T.) He fought in the cavalry, but after the war, he changed his name to James B. Wright. Don't have any family rumors as to why. Any info would be appreciated. His parents are my next step. Thanks!
Robin Wright Hissam

Hi Rose ~~ I am Denise. I was married to James Thomas Hetrick (Yvonne, Doris and Douglas Jr.'s uncle). I think my daughter, Kristine, made the original post. Louise (Sole?) Gross, Sandra Hetrick, James Hetrick and Douglas Hetrick's mother's name: Winnifrend Lorna Whittaker Hetrick ______ (I do not remember her second marriage last name). She was born in England. Their father's name Thomas Sheldon Hetrick. I think he was born in PA. I did tell Yvonne I'd been working on the above's history at Ancestry. I do have information about the family tree. I am just now sure how to add it to your tree and/or print it. Do you know how? I am friends with Yvonne and Doris at fb if you want to add me as a friend we can chat there.

I am researching the Lingle Family. Your message is old, but here is a reply. Minnie Caroline Lingle (1866-1955) married Levi B. Hetrick (1862-1941), a farmer in East Hanover, Dauphin Co. They had children Sarah (1885-), Irene (1889-), Mary R. (1891-), Charles M. (1893-), Albert L. (1895-), and Wilson M. (1901-1956). Minnie and Levi are buried at Shells cemetery, Shellsville, Dauphin Co., PA..

Saw this old message of yours. Your Mary was sister to my G grandmother, Amelia Ann Hetrick Huggins. By now you probably see that Adam Hetrick was a Yankee. In doing the family searching I found like 250 Hetricks from PA in the Union Army.

Earl Hooper
Looking for my 2x great G'pa born around 1840 and his parents. He served in the Civil War and changed his name to James B. Wright sometime after. Found him in the 1880 Federal Census as J. B. Wright along with his wife Mary Elizabeth Elliott Wright. Don't have a lye as to why he changed his name, but his pension application lists him as Joseph J. F. Hetrick (alias James B. Wright) he lists Clarion County, Pa as county of birth. Does anyone have any info on him? Thanks!

My friends line is William J.- Frederick J.- Frederick J. I have not searched for Joseph Clinton yet but what I found was posted at findagrave.com under Rebecca C. Cowan Hetrick. I have since posting found anothers tree that has Michael and Louisa as having 2 other children. 1) Cecilia/Celia b:1807 Germany d:1903 Albany, married Baltus/Baltzer/Walter Springer b: 1803 Baden. They had ten children I have their names and birth years if you are interessted. Looks from the locations the children were born that they came to NY between 1830 and 1833. This would make sense, they probably came with or same time as Michael and Louisa abt 1833. 2) Louisa b: 1819 Germany d: 1870 Albany. Married George W. Boos b: 1816 Baden d:1909 Albany, they had 4 children all born in NY after 1839. George 2nd wife was Magdalina Venter. b:1813 Germany d: bef 1900 Albany. Also found someone listed Louisa (the mother) maiden name as Laundrie middle initial H. I can send you a gedcom file of what I have if you are interested

I am not related to this family but am doing research for a friend. Rebecca was Michael's 2nd wife. Her maiden name is Cowan, she was married 1st to Rufus Vanderhoof. She had a son before she was married, Joseph Clinton (Cowan). The father was Joseph Clinton. The son Joseph died of typhoid while in Louisiana during the Civil War. Michael and Rebecca died while crossing train tracks in Albany, NY Sept. 3, 1882. Letitia died July 2, 1867. Michael and Louisa also had a daughter Catherine L. b: 1824 d: 1912, she married Edwin Simons, They had 4 children Ada F., Edwin F., Herbert B. and Caroline I. I have compiled this data from numerous sources and do not have verification of it all. I also have the descendants of William James Hetrick.
Peter Hetrick's birth of 1750 in Berks Co, PA

It seems that everyone who has Peter Hetrick and wife Hannah Schaeffer in their family tree has a birth date for Peter of either 4 March or 4 May 1750 in Berks Co, PA.
I have been looking everywhere that I can think of, and I cannot find any record of Peter's birth date. Does anyone have any real evidence that Peter was born in 1750? Is it perhaps part of the Rev War widow's pension application? I cannot find that, either. Does anyone have a copy of that?
I sure would appreciate some help. Peter Hetrick is my 4-g-grandfather.

Orr Reunion 2012 at Buckeye Lake in Ohio

We are having an Orr family reunion and you are invited!

Where: Picnic Point at Buckeye Lake Park

When: Sunday, July 1, 2012

Time: 11: 00 am

Food: Potluck

If you have a fishing license, you can sit along the bank and hope that you catch a fish.
If you have a boat, there are a couple ramps at the park that you can use to put your boat into the water.
About 15 minutes away from the park, is Fairfield beach, where you can go swimming. When we were young, we usually went swimming on the sandbar in the middle of the lake; by the way this is still used. I was told that last Saturday in the afternoon there was probably 50 boats parked at this sand bar.
On the weekends, I think there is a pontoon type boat and it costs ten dollars for an hour ride around the lake. When we were growing up, our boat had an outboard motor on it, but I found it a lot more fun to just use the oars and ride around in the lily pads.
Back when we were growing up, this area was an amusement park with roller coaster slot machines, merry-go-round, etc., but the only thing that you will see left is the fountain. This park was called the playground of Ohio. People came from all over the state.
If you would like to come, please let us know; and if you are going to bring something to eat let us know that also.

Contact information is:

Caroline L. King
Email: olina.inthemorning@gmail.com

Or
Sherry M. Orr descendants. The descendants’ families are as follows:

William B. Orr-------married------Martha Harris
b. Nov 8, 1817--------------------b.
Thanks! I do not know where this takes me but will pursue it.

I found two famiies in Pennsylvania named Hetrick but I have yet found a connection between the two. The Hetrick I found is Nicholas Hetrick who arrived in America/Pennsylvania in 1791 with Elizabeth Rator. Any connection between the two you may have found would be helpful.

Cheers!

John Martin Hetrick

Hi Robin. I'll email a picture as soon as I can. I was told he was standing with Emily Jane Gregg. It was taken sometime around the 1900s. Is my other information on the family correct? I came across some Hetrick info that had more than two children in the Augustus family so I ignored that. I cannot find anything on Emily Jane Gregg. I did see on the Pennsylvania Monument at Gettysburg that a David Gregg was an officer of Company K, the regiment that Augustus served in. I don't know if there is any connection. It's nice to hear from relatives.

Ord who married Gerturde Blanche Shumaker. I got this information from my mother, Jean Marie Price. Louella and E. Hayes were her grandparents. I do have a picture of Augustus and Emily Jane.

I read your posting about Fanny Hetrick posted nearly five years ago. Hopefully, you have found that she is the last wife of Sebastian Fetter, my great-great grandfather. I have noticed that some of the information on these sites is in error as my line comes from one of Sebastian's children that little is known about. I understand that Sebastian had four brothers, I only know of two. I plan to do german research
this summer if at all possible.

Ginnie

When you get into it, there are Hetricks everywhere! My group began with three brothers who came over together from Germany to Philadelphia and headed west. My direct ancestor, Christopher Heydrich, was one of the three and "went over the Blue Mountain" (the range bounding the NW edge of Schuylkill--later Berks--County)with his wife Magdalena Sontag). They predate the arrival of your Nicholas Hetrick, having arrived in 1738. Their 5th son, John Nicholas Hetrick, was the common ancestor of everybody else in the Hetrick Family History of Sandusky, OH. Those descendants went on to Sandusky, OH to become known as "Pennsylvania Dutch." My ancestor, the 4th son, was John Peter Heydrich and stayed in PA.

A great source of information is Google Books, which has scanned copies of books from many prestigious libraries available for free download. The Beers histories of the various PA counties have a lot of biographical information on the famous Hetricks of the day.

Best,

Hawk Tolson

James Headrick/Hedrick born in Tennessee

Hello,
My name is Charles Williams and I am researching my wife's family history. I am trying to locate information on James Headrick; Born around 1854 in Tennessee and married Martha Matilda C. Black in Howard County, Missouri in 1876. They lived around Moberly, Missouri until James's death in 1895. James was shot and killed by David Mason in 1895. According to the 1880 census, James's father was from Virginia and his mother was from Ireland. According to family information, James was buried in Sugar Creek Cemetary and his grave was washed away during a flood of that area.
According to one of his children's death certificates, James's middle name was Robert. One of his children was named James Robert Headrick and was born in Rocheport, Boone County, Missouri. This James Robert "Pud" Headrick was my wife's grandfather.
I would greatly appreciate any information you would be willing to share with me.
Thanks in advance,
Charles W. Williams
charleswilliams1948@gmail.com.

George B Hetrick Biography

I am copying this post from: Genealogy Trails, Fulton County, Illinois, dedicated to Free Genealogy: http://www.genealogytrails.com/ill/fulton/Hetrick,GeorgeBbio...

**I would be interested in comparing family notes with anyone who recognizes their ancestors in this family grouping***

Portrait and Biographical Album of Fulton County, Illinois: containing full page portraits and biographical sketches of prominent and representative citizens of the county: together with portraits and biographies of all the presidents of the United States, and governors of the state; Biographical Pub. Co., Chicago, IL; 1890; page 249-250; Transcribed by Margaret Rose Whitehurst
George B. Hetrick, proprietor of the Transfer Line at Canton, is a man who has always met with success in worldly affairs, and one who ranks high in commercial circles. Being an old settler in this county he is well known, and that he is highly respected it needs but a mention of name to prove. Fortune having smiled upon his efforts, he is numbered among the wealthy citizens of the place, having a good business and owning a fine residence, where he and his family enjoy all the comforts that heart can desire and money purchase.
William Hetrick, the great-grandfather of our subject, was the founder of the family in America, coming to this country when quite a young man and settling in Pennsylvania. He was a farmer by occupation and continued to make his home in the Keystone State. The next in the direct line of descent was Robert Hetrick, who was born in Pennsylvania, lived in Virginia for some years, but returned to his native State to die. He married a Miss Smith, and to them were born three children, the youngest of whom was the father of our subject. Upon him the name of Robert was bestowed. After reaching manhood he married Catherine Bellman, daughter of George and Mary Bellman, whose ancestors came from Germany many years ago. She was born about a mile from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
Robert Hetrick pursued the calling of a farmer, and for years served his fell-citizens in the capacity of Constable, and was also Sheriff of Cumberland County for some time. He was a well educated man, much interested in the progress of civilization, and his home was a great resort for ministers of the German Baptist, Methodist Episcopal and other denominations. To himself and his good wife ten children were born, of whom those now deceased are: Caroline, Eliza Jane, Kate, Caroline 2d, Mary Ellen and Jennie. The living are: John, now a stock-raiser and farmer in Linn County, Mo.; Ann, wife of Augustus Stoner, a boot and shoe dealer in Harrisburg, Pa.; the subject of our sketch, and Mary Ellen, wife of William Jacobi, a machinist of Harrisburg.
The birth of George B. Hetrick occurred in Cumberland County, Pa., near Harrisburg, January 29, 1827. He passed his youth in his native State, starting for himself in the business world at the early age of fourteen, and working for his uncle, George Bellman, at stage- driving and teaming. In a short time he saved enough money to purchase a team of his own, and drove a stage in Pittsburg, and later in Northumberland. In 1852 he came West, and for several years made his home in Rushville, this State, still earning his living by teaming. In company with his brother he took contracts for carrying the mail, one route being between Burlington, Iowa, and Springfield, Ill., another from Rushville to Jacksonville, and the contracts covering five routes.
Selling out his mail contracts to Mr. Hetrick returned to his former occupation for a time, then began farming near Huntsville, Schuyler County, where he resided two years. In the fall of 1860 he came to Canton, where he has continued to make his home. Immediately after locating here he took a contract to carry the mail between Elmwood and Livingston, but after faithfully discharging the duties of a carrier two years, sold out and returned to his favorite occupation, teaming. He was the first to haul goods from the depot to the merchants and now has four teams and some very fine wagons, his entire outfit being kept up in first-class style. There is scarcely an hour in the day when at least three of his teams are not in use.
In 1848 Mr. Hetrick was united in marriage with Miss Amanda Pollinger, a native of Cumberland County, Pa., and a friend and schoolmate of his early years. She is a daughter of George and Matilda (Etter) Pollinger, natives of the Keystone State. She is a woman of fine character and has been a devoted member of the Presbyterian Church since her early girlhood. She has borne her husband ten children, of whom the living are: Robert, a commercial traveler who makes his home in Canton; Kate, wife of R. M. Truax, of Morgan Park, Chicago; William, a resident of Canton; Anna and Grace, who are with their parents; Jessie, wife of John Moore, of Buckheart Township, this county. The deceased are: Ellen, George, James and Dot. Mr. Hetrick and his family are regular attends at the Presbyterian Church, and although none but his wife hold membership, all aid in various phases of church work, and are classed among the moral members of society.
