As a child we lived in Joplin, MO and would visit relatives in Noal. I would love to have more information regarding Grace. I knew that she was divorced and had remarried a law officer in Noal. Hope to compare information with you.
Cheryl Dawson

Joseph and Philomena were also my gg grandparents. I guess we're cousins.
Something is odd, though, and I can't find info about this:Their first child, Mary Magdelene, was born in 1850. Joseph and Philomena didn't marry until 1854. Philomena would have been 16 when Mary was born. Perhaps Philomena wasn't Mary Magdelene's mother.
Mary M married Matthew Yost, my G Grandfather. Matt Yost's daughter, Gertrude, was my Grandmother

Hello, I have recently come upon information that Joseph Hertweck is my great, great grandfather. At least, I am sure that Philomena Gaiser is my great, great grandmother. From what I have read, Philomena & Joseph were married in 1854. However, my great grandmother, Mary Magdalena Hertweck was born in 1850...4 years before the marriage. Philomena would have been 16. I wonder what the circumstances were? Mary Magdalena married Matthew Yost, they had 3 daughters, Louise, Gertrude, & Josephine. Gertrude was my Grandmother, from Butler. Gertrude married J.J.(Jack) Dunlevy. J.J. Dunlevy is a member of the Butler County Sports Hall of Fame.
I am very curious to know the circumstances surrounding the birth of Mary Magdalena Hertweck. Any information will be appreciated. Thank You

I also have a Joseph Hertweck in my family tree, who was born about 1833-34 in Baden, Germany, and came to western Pennsylvania where he married Philomena Geiser and they had about 18 children, the descendants of whom now widely populate Butler, Armstrong and Allegheny counties in Pennsylvania. I have dug up MUCH INFO online about him and his descendants and their spouses and children after he came to Pennsylvania, would be happy to share it with anyone releated. NEED INFO on his parents, city of origin, and the same info about his wife. Also, I can't find what happened to his children Ellen (Ella?), Louisa, and a few others. -- Barb

Ida Pack was born about 1867, so Anna Hertwick (b.1861) could not have been her mother. But, Joseph and Mary must have had other daughters, one of whom married a Pack. It is logical to assume that both parents were no longer living, and that is why Ida was living with her grandparents in 1870. Trying to find info on son August Hertwick, also listed with family in 1870, in the hopes of finding a link to Ida and her parents.

I just found out that the person I was looking for was most likely Jedidah GRIFFITH, born about 1877 and living at Brady's Bend in the 1880 census. And I now have her parents' and siblings' names, etc.

Perhaps my mother was remembering the spouse of another of the 13 children of Joseph Hertweck Hertwick 1834, my great-great-grandfather and her great-grandfather. So, if anyone does know of a Wagner that married a Hertweck Hertwick from around Brady's Bend, PA, I'd still appreciate learning about it.

Sorry for the confusion,
Barb

A photocopy of the Dorn family plots at St.Louis Roman Catholic Cemetary (Louisville, KY) also shows a Julia Hertweck. Born 1880 (written in by our aunt) died 1896; at approximately 16 yrs old. She is buried next to Anna J. Hertweck d. 1893 and Casimer Hertweck d.1886. We also have a photo of the gravestone. We have in the Dorn family album a picture of her approx. 2 yrs old, done in Louisville. I have no idea of how she is related to the C. Henry and Mary R. Dorn's; my suspicion is her parents were friends/relatives of the Dorn's and she was orphaned.

Julia Hertwick/Louisville KY

In our Dorn family photo album (some pictures 150 yrs old) is a number of baby/child photos of a Julia. They lived in Louisville, KY and are buried there.

C.H. Dorn and his wife Mary Dorn are buried at the St. Louis Roman Catholic Cemetary in Louisville. Besides them are buried ( our album includes photos of the grave sites, but why I don't know)of:
Julia Hertwick 1896 (an aunt had penciled on a plot map: 1880),
Anna J. Hertwick 1893, and
Casimer Hertwick 1886.
My guess is Julia may have been raised by the Dorn's and the Hertwick's were relatives, perhaps on the (Mary) Reidhaar's side. Mary was from Baar, Switzerland.

Any matches or family lore that is close????

Re: Joseph Hertwick 1880 PA census

My goodness, I replied too soon. There is an 1870 census with that same family in it, that includes a daughter Anna, age 9 then. Ida Pack could be her daughter, as Anna would have been 19 by the 1880 census to which you are referring. Also, for some reason, months ago, I decided that "your" Joseph's brother was Michel Hertwick, who had a daughter Christine. If you contact me directly, anyone who is interested, I can tell you what other info I have on this family. For one thing there was a store on the North Side that they owned.

You might find it helpful to know that they lived in the CITY of Allegheny (later Pittsburgh's North Side) in the county of Allegheny. And the spelling was indeed HertWICK, not Hertweck, in that census. All of my Hertwick ancestors were spelling it with an E at that time. I'm a descendant of Joseph Hertweck / Hertwick 1834 from Brady's Bend, some of whose descendants later moved to Glenshaw, PA. There still may be a connection, since "my" Joseph was from Baden, also.

Jedide/Jedidah/Jide Wagner born abt 1879 married Peter Frances Hertweck/ Hertwick

I'm looking for the birth family (parents and siblings) of my great great aunt Jedidah, Jedide or even Jide Wagner Hertweck/Hertwick. She married Peter Hertweck/Hertwick from Brady's Bend around 1896, and they had 12 children together: Elizebeth P Hertweck 1897 – Anna S Hertwick 1898 – Joseph G Hertweck 1900 – Stanley Hertweck 1902 – Hellen M Hertweck 1905 – Hazel K Hertweck 1907 – Charles A Hertweck 1909 – Oliva G Hertweck 1912 – William J Hertweck 1913 – Francis E Hertweck 1915 – James D Hertweck 1918 – Lawrence R Hertweck 1921. They lived in various places around western PA as Peter worked in the oil fields and later as a pipe fitter and finally for Westinghouse. If you know of any of Jedide's siblings, or her parents, or whether she ever was known by another name as a child (Ida maybe?), please contact me. Also, if you know a descendant who might have that information. Thank you!

variations of name(s)?

I have a great-grandmother Elizabeth, daughter of Joseph Hertwick in W. PA. While researching them, I've run across some spelling varieties about which I need advice. Are ALL of these names variations of Hertwick? If not, please, somebody let me know which ones I should NOT include in my searches: Hertweck, Hartwick, Hartweck, Hardwick, Hertwig, Hartwig, Hertrick, Hardwig, Hardrick, or even others? Any advice or direction would be much appreciated. I have a few families documented in case anyone else could use info about them in that area (Bradys Bend and Pittsburgh area).
Re: Julia Hertwick/Louisville KY

Julia Howard Hertwick was my great-great grandmother. I don't know how much you know about the family, but just in case you don't know all of this, she married Heinrick Karl Hertwick (changed his name to Charles). He was born in Germany. His parents were Johann David Hertwick and Maria Charlotta Weiss. Julia and Charles were married in Allen County Kansas in 1865. They had several children -- these are the ones I know -- they may have had more, but I have just begun researching them and this is all I've found -- mostly through some letters that my sister and I found in my grandmother's papers -- Laura Ann (my great-grandmother) had one child - Floy Regina Hertwick Welton Oberlitner; Carrie (Barnhill); Joanna (W. K. Stiles); Grace (Horton, later married George Hoover); T. Graton. There were letters to, and referrals about, someone named Lulu, but I don't know who that is. I don't know the names of the other siblings's children. Julia and Charles lived in Bentonville, AR for a while and later in Sulphur Springs, AR and then Noel, MO. Charles apparently contracted some sort of illness during the war (Civil War, I suppose) because we found the papers showing that Julia applied for widow's pension in 1891 and started receiving $8.00 a month for herself and, I believe, $6.00 a month for any child under the age of 16 at the time of Charles' death. There was reference in the paperwork to an illness connected to the war. We never could find his date of death, but we found the receipt where she paid for his coffin ($15.00). I think they were living in Noel at that time. I believe I found record of T. Graton's (called Tot) burial at Hilcrest Cemetery in Gravette, AR, although I'm not positive. He moved around a lot and at one time lived in Mena, AR. I have a little more information about Grace, Carrie, Laura and Tot if you would like for me to relate it to you. I don't want to keep going on and on in case you already know all of this. If you have any information about the Howards/Hertwicks and don't mind sharing it with me, I would love to have it. I'm having a terrible time finding anything online. My great grandmother, Laura, supposedly lost her husband when he left the Howard farm near Bella Vista, AR where they were living at the time, and started for the bank in Bentonville about 10 miles away. He was never seen or heard from again. I have been unable to find any mention of his name in any correspondence we went through (they wrote LOTS of letters to each other). Supposedly, his name was George Gilmore. She always went by her maiden name, however, and my grandmother, Floy, went by Hertwick. So, I don't think there was ever a marriage. Very mysterious. It appears that she lived with or near her mother until Julia died.

Mary Ford

Ken, I am researching my husband's g-grandfather, GOTTLEIB HERTWECK, born 1840 in Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany. His father was CHRISTIAN HERTWECK and his mother REGINA KREDER (or GRAETER). I am trying to research if Gottleib had any brothers or sisters. Gottleib arrived in Brisbane Queensland in 1862 and married IDA MOHR from Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Hope you can be of assistance. Margaret Hertweck

He then moved back to his home until he died.
-----------------------------------------------------

I have no verbal indication that Rhoda was married to Elmer Hertweck also, just found this record during the search. It is so close in location and time that I thought I should include it for verification or exclusion.

---------------------------------------------
I have information on the Pearson/Payne family as well. If you need more information, just let me know.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

hertweck

My g-g-g grandfather was Joseph Hertweck. He lived in Brady's Bend Twp, Armstrong County, PA in 1860 until his death. He was married to Philomena Giser. They were both born in Germany. He was a butcher and had a meat market in East Brady, Clarion County, PA, which is only about 3 miles from where he lived. I think he came to the US at least before 1855 because the oldest child, Mary, was 5 at the time and listed as being born in PA. There was another person listed on the 1860 census that I think the last name was Hertweck (it was very hard to read). The first names were John, age 26, Catherine, age 19, and William, age 1. Joseph was listed as age 24 on the 1860 census and Philomena age 25. The 1870 census lists Joseph as being born in Baden(?) and the 1880 census lists Philomena as being born in Wertenburg. Do you think they are related to your family? It doesn't seem to be a real common name.
