Wendy
I have a 4xGGrandfather called James Hersey who was born in Shere, Surrey c1785. He married Ann Child (b.c1791 Shere) in Shere on 2 Oct 1813. I know they had at least 4 children; Sarah Ann (b.1813 Shere), Ann (b.1817 Shere), Amelia (b.1822 Shere - my 3xGGrandmother), and James (b.1825 Shere).
There must be a connection here somewhere!
Peter

sorry i took so long to get back. and they changed the numbers after my name??
Being systematic by temperament, I started at the beginning of documentation of the Herseys (de Herce in France). much to my surprise there is so much online that I'm still working on it.

in the US, my line diverges from your after a couple of generations, which doesn't make any difference in our being Herseys.

I'm about to start exploring the Croades. any info on them in England?

feel free to email me direct, since I dont check this site very often.

Yes, I am still here. In addition to what you found on the children of Samuel Hersey, I found that his first wife died on April 29, 1853, apparently in childbirth. She had a son born that same day. I have no name for him and no further record of him, so I am guessing that he did not survive.

I am the first cousin, 4 times removed of Samuel H Hersey, 1786-1867. I would love to see/have the pictures of which you speak. Amos & Mercy Mason Hersey are my third great grand-parents. Our nearest relative is John Hearsey, 1795-1870. Did Samuel H and Eunice have any children other than Samuel? Any idea what H stands for? I'd also like to know more about the Bradbury line starting with the parents of Eunice.
catherine_h_crowther@hotmail.com

Re: Hersey Family of Southern York County, PA

Dear David,

Other than your own Hersey line, there are two major, very large Hersey lines in the U.S. I am the primary researcher for the southern Georgia and northern Florida Hersey families. The primary researcher for the Hersey families from New England is Stephen E. Hersey. We used to believe that these two Hersey families were related, however, I have proven that they are not related via genetic testing (the Hersey Surname DNA Project). The progenitor for the New England Hersey line was from England; i.e. William Hersey (1596-1658). The southern Hersey line has an Indian (Native American) ancestor from North Carolina.

Your Hersey line is a third significant Hersey line in the U.S., but it's not nearly as large as the other two. I have that your Hersey line was originally from Mayenne, France; i.e., via Isaac Hersey (1700-1768).

I'd love to be able to test a male Hersey from your Hersey line to show that your line was not connected to the other two.

Rob Noles
Robert B.
The Hersey Family began their extention into Pennsylvania around 1800. Benjamin Hersey and wife Sarah (McAntire)Hersey moved from Mill Creek Hundred, DE into York County. My connection list goes as follows, Benjamin Hersey - Solomon Hersey - Francis Asbury Hersey - Samuel Gantz Hersey - Gertrude Sophia (Hersey) Dellinger.
The Hesey Family located at mill Creek hundred, DE were fairly well-to-do and owned Mills and Hotel plus a Tavern. In Pennsylvania they became farmers and worked a nice farm in Hopewell Twsp, York County, PA until the 1950's.

Any information to Hersey relatives and dates would be greatly receivied.

Hello,

Just so everybody who was posted messages here, there are multiple distinct HERSEY families in the U.S. The two major ones are from New England (with ancestors from England) and Wiregrass Georgia and Florida (southeast Georgia and northern Florida. The Wiregrass Georgia Hersey families have an Indian male ancestor who I believe to be Thomas Hersey (1803-1906) from Coffee and Ware Co., Georgia.

An overview of the Hersey families and the DNA test results that have established the Indian ancestry for the Wiregrass georgia Herseys are available on my Web site for Hersey; i.e., http://www.huxford.com/Genetics_Hersey.htm

My wife is a Hersey from Wiregrass Georgia; a 3rd great granddaughter of old Thomas Hersey.

Rob Noles
Hersey Researcher
www.huxford
rbnoles@bellsouth.net
Hello Steve,

I'd lost track of you.

When we last 'talked' we were still looking for the connection between the Northern Hersey families (from New England; originally from England; your line)and the Southern Hersey families (from Wiregrass Georgia and norhtern Florida; my wife's line), source originally unknown.

With DNA testing I have established that the Northern Hersey and Southern Hersey families are NOT related. DNA results for the Northern Hersey familes is European and the Southern Hersey families are of Native American descent.

Good to hear that you are back at your genealogy efforts.

Rob Noles
rbnoles@bellsouth.net
http://www.huxford.com/Genetics_Hersey.htm
OK, I looked in my records, and found that I had sent for a record search for this marriage back in 2000, and no records were found. But, I decided, on a whim, to resubmit my request, and I got the marriage certificate in the mail this morning.

My mysterious Hersey gentleman is Wesley Hersey, son of Charles F. and Bessie M. Vose. He was born about 1910 in Chelsea MA, and he married my grandmother on January 8, 1932 in Lynn.

A quick search of the Ancestry databases produces no death records, but it appears that he at some point became a merchant marine. Now to figure out what happened to the marriage ....

Mysterious Hersey in my family tree

I'm looking for any and all information regarding a male Hersey who was married to my grandmother, Phyllis Irene Newhall of Lynn, MA.

I have no information about this man other than my grandmother's last name is listed as Hersey on several documents. She applied for her social security number under the name Phyllis Irene Newhall Hersey on 5 Dec 1936 and at that time lived at 57 South St. in Lynn Mass. I don't believe they were married very long after that date, as my oldest uncle was born in May of 1938 in New York City, and he was raised as a Morgan his entire life, even though my grandmother and grandfather were not married at the time of his birth.

I can find no record of a previous marriage for my grandmother, but I have a sneaking suspicion that my oldest uncle may be the son of this unknown Hersey gentleman. I don't know how the marriage ended, either. No one in the family even knew my grandmother had been married prior to the birth of her three boys and marriage to my grandfather until I started researching the family tree.

Phyllis was born in Lynn MA on 5 July 1911 to Elliot Barnes Newhall and Grace Mabel Pickle.

Any clues anyone can offer about the identity of this unknown Hersey would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Deb

Hi,

Brad's father's name is Rawling Hersey. I don't know his mother's name (different than my mom). Brad grew up and married a woman by the name of Rose and had 3 to 5 kids. Then he escaped the draft and went to Canada. I don't know if he returned with amnesty. Some people around Cape Cod said that they have seen him. I have never seen him but then again, would I even recognize him now. He was pretty badly treated as a kid so his incentive to know "ME" as a stepsister would not be that great. My mother was a non-discrimintating abuser. . I just wish I could tell him that I love him. Always did,,,always will. He would be near 60 now I think. I am 54 now.

I was asking because Waldon's grandmother was Augusta Adelaide Frye, who married John B. Hersey. Augusta was the great-granddaughter of a Major Isaac Frye from the American Revolution. I have spent the last few years researching Isaac Frye and have been filling in a descendency chart, essentially trying to document as many of his descendants as I could find and to ask them if they had or knew of any family history related to Isaac Frye.

At any rate, I saw that Waldon B. Hersey had four children with Lois Elizabeth Elliot, two daughters, a son, and another daughter.

If you are willing to share any additional information please send it to me directly via charlief@hotmail.com, particularly if it refers to people who are still living.

Thanks,

Charlie

Hi Steve, his is Wendy Lewis, g granddaughter of Charles Ernest Hersey. I have addtl. info on him. My cousin, Chuck Hersey, and his sister went to Barre, Vt on a fact finding mission into finding his parents records, Henry Hersey and Julia or (Adelia) Grey. They had no success at all with that, but they did find birth certificates for a set of male twins born to Charles Ernest (b1876, VT) and Sarah E. (b CAN, 1878 nee-Tracy) Hersey (Bessie). The twins were born in 1915, and both died within weeks, being premature. One died too soon to be named, but the other was named ARTHUR ROYAL HERSEY. I am trying to find any Hersey's with either of those names or possibly Grey's with the name(s), to try to find some sort of connection. If you could look through your records maybe there are some clues??? Thanks, and have a great day! Wendy Lewis
